Governor Dauda Lawal decorates a member of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards with a gallantry medal.

Governor Dauda Lawal has promised full support to the families of officers and men of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG) who lost their lives in the fight against banditry.

In a statement on Saturday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, it was revealed that Lawal spoke at a ceremony held at the Government House, where 20 members of the CPG were decorated with gallantry medals for their exceptional performance.

The decorated guards, led by Brig-Gen. Lawal Bature Mohammed, the state Commandant of the CPG, were recognised for their frontline efforts in combating bandits and striving to restore peace in Zamfara State.

“Governor Dauda Lawal reiterated his administration’s dedication to the welfare of the guards and pledged full support for the families of those who lost their lives,” the statement noted.

Governor Lawal expressed his commitment to the welfare of the fallen guards’ families, stating, “We consider decorating you as a way to motivate you to do more in this significant sacrifice that you are undertaking. We can’t compensate you for your service to the state and humanity; all we can do is encourage and motivate you for your gallantry.”

“I want to reassure you that we have a plan in place for the families of CPG members who lost their lives in the line of duty. We will take care of all their needs and provide them with all the necessary support,” he added.

Earlier, the CPG Commandant stated that the 20 guards were selected from various Local Government Areas of the state based on their outstanding performances in the fight against banditry.

Governor Lawal’s promise of support underscores his administration’s commitment to the security and welfare of those who put their lives on the line to protect the state, ensuring that the sacrifices of the brave guards and their families are duly recognised and supported.
