Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Mallam Atta Market in Accra, saving several adjoining structures from destruction.

According to a statement from the Service, the distress call was received at 22:46 hours on 12 November 2025. The first firefighting appliance from the National Headquarters, led by ADO I Ahoni, arrived at the scene at 23:02 hours.

Crews from the Circle and Flagstaff House Fire Stations arrived at 23:13 hours and 23:29 hours, respectively, to reinforce firefighting operations.

The GNFS confirmed that the blaze was brought under control at 00:01 hours and completely extinguished by 00:24 hours.

In total, twelve wooden structures—six used as dwellings and six as shops—were destroyed, while a 40-foot container operating as a cold store was partially affected.

Thanks to the firefighters’ swift and coordinated response, several nearby structures were salvaged from the flames. No casualties were recorded, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
