Hot SourceThe Ministry of Education, says it has been unable to trace the individual behind a viral social media post alleging that school placements under the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) system are being sold for GHC15,000.
The allegation, attributed to a social media user identified as Gertrude Adzo Borklo, claims that placement into Aburi Girls’ Senior High School comes at a hefty price , a claim the Ministry has strongly denied.
In a press release, issued by the Ministry and signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Apaak, efforts to reach the user have proven unsuccessful, as her account’s messaging feature was deactivated shortly after the post began circulating online.
“Attempts to contact the individual have not yielded results. Her account messenger was deactivated shortly after the claim was made public,” said Dr Clement Abas Apaak, Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament.
Despite this, the Ministry says it is working closely with the National Security and the Cyber Security Authority to track down the originator of the claim and others amplifying similar allegations through anonymous or “ghost” accounts.
“We are determined to get to the bottom of this. We are collaborating with the relevant agencies to locate the individual and anyone involved in this information campaign,” Dr Apaak stated.
The Ministry has dismissed the allegations as part of a broader attempt to undermine public trust in the Computerized School Placement System (CSSPS), which it insists remains free, fair, and transparent.
“Placement into senior high schools is completely free of charge. No one should pay a pesewa to access this service,” Dr Apaak added.
The Ministry is encouraging the public to report any cases of extortion involving school placement officials or third parties.
