Ghana and Brazil pledge closer ties to advance gender equality

Ghana and Brazil have pledged to deepen cooperation on gender equality following a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Ghana’s Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, held bilateral talks with Brazil’s Minister for Women, Marcia Lopes, during the ongoing UN gathering.

According to a statement from Ghana’s Gender Ministry, Dr Lartey congratulated her Brazilian counterpart and the government of Brazil for successfully hosting the 2nd Global School Meals Summit, which concluded two days earlier.

The two ministers expressed admiration for each other’s countries and agreed to collaborate on gender issues, sharing good practices to promote equality, equity and social protection in their respective nations.

The meeting highlights Ghana’s continuing effort to build global partnerships that strengthen policies for women and children—an agenda that remains central to the UN’s development goals.
