GES clarifies controversy surrounding 2025 WASSCE results

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has moved to set the record straight following public debates on the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

In an official statement issued today, 1 December 2025 and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, GES management provided clarity to ensure a balanced national conversation and addressed claims made by Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, the immediate past Minister for Education.

The Service refuted assertions that allowances due teachers had been cancelled, explaining that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) had already clarified the reasons for the non-payment of November allowances.

GES described claims linking the 2025 WASSCE performance to supposed mismanagement by the Service as unfounded and urged the public to disregard them.

“Management of GES views the 2025 WASSCE results as a true reflection of academic performance of the candidates. The outcome is a credible representation of students’ abilities,” the statement read.

GES highlighted that all examinations were conducted under heightened invigilation, strengthened supervision, and strict adherence to examination protocols.

These measures led to the apprehension of some students and staff who would have otherwise engaged in malpractice.

The statement further noted that prior to the examinations, a directive had been issued that any teacher or official found aiding or abetting malpractice would face strong sanctions. This directive, according to GES, was rigorously enforced.

Looking ahead, the Service encouraged students to prepare for the international WASSCE, scheduled for May/June 2026, as Ghana transitions from the Ghana-only WASSCE introduced under the previous administration.

GES reassured the public of its commitment to preserving the integrity of the examination process, stating that it will continue to work closely with stakeholders—including heads of schools, teachers, students, parents, communities, Civil Society Organisations, and WAEC—to improve teaching, learning, and examination standards.
