German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to visit Ghana for bilateral talks

Germany’s President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will begin a three-day state visit to Ghana on Sunday, 2 November, as both nations seek to deepen ties in trade, technology, and development cooperation.

A statement from Ghana’s Presidency Communications Directorate said the visit will run until Tuesday, 4 November, and will include meetings with Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, in Accra and engagements in Kumasi.

Mr Steinmeier will be welcomed with a full military Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of The Presidency before holding a closed-door meeting with Mr Mahama. The two leaders are expected to lead their respective delegations in bilateral discussions focused on investment, digital innovation, and sustainable development.

A state luncheon will be held in honour of the visiting president and his delegation at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Accra.

Later, Mr Steinmeier will lay a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. He is also expected to meet young Ghanaian IT professionals before attending a reception hosted by the German Ambassador.

The German president will travel to Kumasi on Tuesday, where he will perform a sod-cutting ceremony at the Kumasi Technical Institute and engage with staff and alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He will also visit the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research and pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.

President Steinmeier is scheduled to leave Ghana on Tuesday evening.

The visit highlights Ghana’s growing diplomatic and economic partnerships with Germany, which has become one of the West African nation’s key development and trade partners in recent years.
