GAF to resume Greater Accra recruitment exercise after stampede

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will restart its suspended 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, 20 November 2025.

This follows the suspension of the process last week after a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

The military high command has thereby replaced the entire Greater Accra recruitment team to facilitate an unimpeded investigation into the incident.

A new leadership team has been appointed to oversee the process. Commodore FA Nyarko now acts as Director General Human Resource, with Colonel F Kusi-Darko and Colonel GB Eduah taking over as Director Manpower and Director Information Technology, respectively.

The Board of Inquiry investigating the stampede continues its work. GAF has pledged that “anyone found culpable from the Inquiry will be sanctioned accordingly.”

To ensure a smooth and orderly exercise, the screening will be decentralised across eight sub-centres in five locations:

· El-Wak Stadium (2 Centres)
· Nicholson Park, Burma Camp (2 Centres)
· Air Force Base, Burma Camp
· Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie (2 Centres)
· Eastern Naval Command, Tema

All qualified applicants will be assigned to specific batches of 600 persons. Each person will receive an SMS detailing their reporting date, batch, and designated centre.

Prospective recruits are urged to strictly adhere to the instructions provided via text and to monitor the official recruitment portal for any updates.

Applicants who do not receive an SMS by 20 November 2025 are advised to contact the helpline on 0256405104 or WhatsApp on 0256405154 for assistance.

In a bid to prevent congestion, GAF has cautioned families and friends against accompanying applicants to the screening venues. Non-applicants will be denied entry.

The Armed Forces extended its “deepest sympathies to the bereaved families” and wished the injured a swift recovery.

All injured persons will continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital. Furthermore, a special recruitment package will be offered to the injured after full recovery and to the families of the deceased.

The press release was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, the Acting Director General of Public Relations.
