Foreign Affairs Ministry introduces enhanced passport security protocols

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced new and strengthened security protocols to safeguard the acquisition of Ghanaian passports.

In a statement shared on social media, Mr Ablakwa said the move is to ensure that only eligible Ghanaians benefit from the country’s high-value passports, which have recently attracted exclusive international privileges.

“Recently negotiated exclusive diplomatic privileges for Ghanaian passport holders, including 10 visa waivers and a reversal of US visa restrictions, have made Ghanaian passports a target for many who do not qualify to have them. We shall not allow such nefarious schemes to succeed,” he noted.

The minister explained that the decision followed a crucial meeting he convened with officials of the Passport Office. The meeting brought together national management, regional directors, private partners, consultants, and courier companies involved in passport administration.

Mr Ablakwa expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating that the resolutions reached will significantly strengthen the integrity of Ghana’s passport system.
