Hot SourceA 49-year-old fisherman, Samuel Armah, popularly known as “Kofi Nyan,” has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Cape Coast Circuit Court Two for defiling a 13-year-old girl at Mumford, near Apam, in the Central Region.
Armah pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement when he appeared before Her Honour Nana Aba Quiba Nunoo on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, and was convicted on his own plea. He has since been transferred to the Ankaful Prison to serve his sentence.
The incident, which occurred on 16 October 2025, sparked widespread public outrage after a video of the assault went viral on social media.
In the disturbing footage, Armah was heard accusing the victim of stealing GHC800 from him and demanding GHC200 every hour as “payment.” The young girl was seen pleading for mercy, promising to search for the money, but Armah allegedly ignored her cries. Some bystanders were reportedly heard urging him on, while others appeared visibly disturbed by the ordeal.
Following a report made to the Apam District Police Command around 1 p.m. on 17 October 2025, the Central Regional Police Command, with support from the Mumford task force, arrested Armah at a ghetto in Mumford where he had lured the victim.
The victim was subsequently taken to the St. Luke Catholic Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
The case was later referred to the Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), where Armah confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Police investigations also revealed that four other individuals—identified as Agoogo, Edina, Kwesi Abbam, and Agya Ankoto—were involved in the incident but managed to flee before the arrest.
Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the suspects and have appealed to residents of Mumford and neighbouring communities to provide any information that could lead to their capture.
