The direct family of late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has publicly disowned a funeral date announced by a dissolved funeral committee, labelling the move as “disrespectful, misleading, and highly inconsiderate”.

In press release dated Monday, 24 November 2025, the family expressed “profound shock and disappointment” at the actions of Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu and members of the former committee, who they accuse of creating “unnecessary confusion and tension”.

Billboards and public announcements advertising a funeral date in December have appeared in Accra and Kumasi, despite the family insisting that the date was only a proposal and was never formally agreed upon.

The family outlined several reasons why a December funeral is “both impossible and irresponsible”.

Key among them is that some of Daddy Lumba’s children, who reside in Germany, are preparing for critical academic examinations that cannot be postponed. The family stated that expecting them to “combine grief with high-stakes examinations is cruel, unfair, and psychologically harmful”.

Furthermore, the family emphasised that the circumstances surrounding the music icon’s death “remain unclear,” with multiple conflicting accounts presented. A comprehensive autopsy and parallel investigations are ongoing in both Ghana and Germany.

“Attempting to bury him before these investigations conclude is not only irresponsible — it is highly suspicious,” the release stated.

Logistical challenges for international family members and the global community of friends and fans who require sufficient time to travel were also cited as reasons for the postponement.

The family accused Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu of blatantly ignoring resolutions from a Stamkese mediation meeting, which stipulated the dissolution of the old funeral committee and the formation of a new one without unilateral powers.

In a serious allegation, the family claims that despite being served with a court letter on 21 November 2025 restricting him from financial activities, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu unlawfully withdrew GHS 200,000 from a Cal Bank account in East Legon without the family’s knowledge or consent.

The signatories named in the alleged withdrawal are Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, Ms. Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni), and Mr. Collins Owusu Amankwah.

The family has categorically stated that “no funeral date has been approved” and “no individual or committee has the authority to set a date”.

They are calling on traditional authorities, the public and the media to disregard all unauthorised announcements and to support the family in ensuring a “transparent, dignified, and united” funeral process.

The release was signed by a 14-member direct family committee, including Wofa Robert Yaw Opoku Gyamfi, Ms. Ernestina Brennpomaa Fosuh, and Mr. Miller Attakorah.
