An embittered man who claims to be a Nigerian soldier has lambasted the Nigerian military authorities over what he said to be their lackluster attitude towards the welfare of soldiers especially those in various operation theaters in different parts of the country.

The unnamed soldier who made the allegations in a viral video, accused the Nigerian military hierarchy of abandoning wounded personnel when they get injured in the line of duty, forcing them to treat themselves with their own money.

In the video clip, the soldier condemned the poor welfare conditions of soldiers, especially those injured during operations, adding that the army provides no medical support or financial aid, even in life-threatening situations.

“When a soldier got injured. If that soldier does not have his own money in his account, that soldier will die,” he lamented.

“If you get injured, it is your salary you take to treat yourself. The Nigerian Army does not care for you. It has happened to me.”

Narrating an experience of a colleague, the soldier said:

“A friend of mine got injured and underwent surgery. His mother usually sends money to him to buy drugs, he is in 44 hospital, Kaduna.

“Any soldier got injured during the fight. That soldier for nine months, he treated himself. No government treats him.

“If you get any bullet injury, they plan to cut your leg. They will try to cut your leg even if it is not up to it being cut, so that they should just damage your life.

“They sell health insurance to soldiers. Which kind of organisation is the Nigerian Army? So why do soldiers become slaves in their country?” he queried.
