Dzifa Gomashie refutes claims of misusing GHC90,000 NLA support

The Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has dismissed allegations that she misappropriated GHC90,000 received from the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

She stated that the funds, accessed through the NLA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fund, were specifically requested for the rehabilitation of the Anoenu CHPS compound in her constituency — and were used strictly for that purpose.

“That was exactly what I used the money for; not a dime was spent by me. So, it is ridiculous for anyone to say that I will take state money and spend it for myself,” Madam Gomashie told journalists during a media interaction at the premises of the renovated health facility.

According to the minister, the money went into expanding and equipping the community’s health centre to better serve the reproductive and maternal health needs of residents.

She said that the GHC90,000 was used to provide additional rooms, install essential medical equipment, and construct water and sanitation facilities to make the centre fully operational.

“It was a one-room [facility] which I inherited from my predecessor, with a shed in front of it. As we speak, I was able to use that money and more to put up extra rooms, give them equipment, subscribe, and build the water closet [facility] that I indicated,” she explained.

She further disclosed that the original plan was to purchase a poly tank to improve water access at the facility. However, on the advice of the Municipal Assembly Engineer, the project was modified to include a mechanised borehole for a more sustainable water supply.

“Additionally, we wanted to buy a poly tank for the community to store water for the clinic. But the Municipal Assembly Engineer advised me that it would be better if we had a borehole and mechanised it. So, there is potable water in the area,” she said.

Madam Gomashie reiterated that the entire GHC90,000 provided by the NLA was used solely for the rehabilitation project, insisting that the initiative was undertaken in good faith and in the interest of her constituents.

She emphasised that the project forms part of her broader commitment to improving access to quality healthcare across Ketu South and ensuring that developmental resources directly benefit local communities.
