Hot SourceDeputy Education Minister, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has paid an unannounced visit to selected Senior High Schools in the Volta Region.
The surprise stop was to assess the progress of the ongoing admission and registration exercise for first-year students was on the behest of his boss, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, who also visited PRESEC Legon in Accra.
The visit to the Volta region is to ensure that enrollment is done orderly and smoothly.
Dr Apaak’s first stop was at OLA Girls’ Senior High School in Ho, where he expressed concern about the pace of the registration process and the long queues that had formed.
“I am here today to check around and see how the processes are unfolding. What I am seeing here gives me reasonable concern,” he said.
Dr Apaak explained that his visit formed part of the Ministry of Education’s efforts to ensure that all schools were efficiently handling the placement and enrollment of new students who officially began reporting on October 18, 2025.
Following an engagement with the headmistress of the school, the Deputy Minister directed that immediate steps be taken to enhance efficiency.
“Based on my conversation with the Headmistress, we are going to evaluate the process to ensure that it is timely and efficient,” he said. “I have asked that they provide additional computers and increase the number of personnel there to about five.”
He further suggested that schools should stagger the registration process by encouraging students to complete certain stages elsewhere before returning to finalise their registration.
Dr Apaak, also assured parents and students that the government was aware of the logistical challenges in some schools and was taking steps to address them.
He also visited the Taviefe Senior High School in the region, where he interacted with parents, guardians, and the new students.
The Deputy Minister’s monitoring tour is expected to continue at other schools in other areas to ensure that the admission process remains smooth and transparent.
His visit follows a similar one by his boss, the education minister, Haruna Iddrisu, who visited the Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, Legon.
After touring the place, he pledged to provide the school with the infrastructure support needed to enhance teaching and learning.
