Operatives of Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected kidnappers and recovered three AK-47 rifles in Rivers and Kogi States during separate operations.
The suspects were trailed to their hideouts in the two states following preliminary investigations into their activities in parts of Delta State.
According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, a Superintendent of Police (SP), the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment team led by Julius Robinson, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), carried out the operations which led to the arrest of the suspects.
Edafe in a statement issued yesterday said the special team extended their investigation to Rivers State where one Chedeye Mohammed was apprehended last Wednesday at about 6.20 p.m.
“On March 26, 2025, operatives of CP Special Assignment team led by the commander ASP Julius Robinson were on the trail of some suspected kidnappers. They extended their investigation to Rivers State and at about 1820 hours of the same date, a fleeing suspected kidnapper name Chedeye Mohammed was trailed and arrested.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect led operatives to a bush after a trailer park in River State where they hid their weapons,” he said, adding that one AK-47 rifle loaded with 13 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered.
Edafe disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and his members usually kidnap at Ughelli, Agbarho, and other parts of Delta State and hibernate in River State.
In another operation, the CP Special Assignment team also stormed Anyangba in Kogi State where three suspects were arrested for kidnappings and recovered several weapons.
Acting on credible information, Edafe disclosed that operatives of the CP special assignment led by ASP Julius Robinson embarked on a sting operations in Anyangba town in Kogi State and arrested the three suspects.
He identified the suspects as Zakari Mohammed, 31, from Olugbujo community; Ibrahim Mumuni, 29, of Anyangba town, and Mohammed Hamisu, 25 of Anyangba town all in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He said: “A search warrant was executed at their residence, during which an AK-47 rifle and one automatic Pump-action gun were recovered on the same date, at about 1405 hours.”
Edafe said the operatives, acting on the statements made by the suspects arrested earlier, apprehended one Samaila Mohammed, 35, of Udo community in Dekina Local Government Area where a Baretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and cartridges were recovered
Similarly, the operatives of CP-SAT arrested one Emu Lucky, a native of Igbide community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State and recovered 82 rounds of 7.62mm in his premises.
“Acting on intelligence, the operatives embarked on a covert operation at Olomoro community in Isoko South LGA and arrested one Emu Lucky, 35, a native of Igbide community, and during a search of his premises, the operatives recovered eighty-two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was working with one Mohammed Bello, a suspected kidnapper already in custody. Mohammed acts as a middle man between the suspected gun runner and other suspected kidnappers,” he added.
The PPRO disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, promised Deltans that this tempo would be sustained to ensure that the mandate given to him by the Inspector General Police-which is to ensure that all Deltans and residents in the state sleep with their two eyes close-will be delivered.
