The Delta State Police Command has arrested suspected armed robbers and kidnappers while recovering multiple locally fabricated firearms and ammunition across the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, the command disclosed that operatives uncovered a suspected criminal armoury linked to a syndicate allegedly terrorising commuters along the Warri–Sapele road axis.
The breakthrough followed the handover of a 25-year-old suspect, Dafiaga Timothy of Effurun Community, to the Command’s Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) by the Divisional Police Officer of Ororokpe Division.
Acting on intelligence obtained during interrogation, operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson stormed a concealed hideout along the Sapele–Warri Road near the Adheje Community axis at about 5:30 a.m. on February 19, 2026.
A search of the location led to the recovery of a locally made long gun, a cut-to-size firearm, and a fabricated Beretta-style pistol loaded with five rounds of live ammunition. Officers also recovered ten live cartridges and a dagger.
Police authorities said the seizure has significantly disrupted the operational capacity of the suspected syndicate. Investigation is ongoing.
In a separate operation on February 18, 2026, operatives of the Area Command Warri intercepted a blue tricycle along the Agbarho/Warri Expressway during a visibility patrol at about 5:00 a.m.
Upon conducting a lawful search, two of the three occupants fled into a nearby bush, while the driver, identified as 25-year-old Aliyu Sabo of Hausa Quarter by DSC Roundabout, was apprehended.
A locally cut-to-size pistol concealed inside the tricycle was recovered, along with one live cartridge and one expended cartridge. Other items found included two mobile phones, a Zealot MP3 player, a face mask, and a black bag.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Agbor Division foiled an attempted robbery at Texas Lodge Hostel in Alihame Community, Agbor.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Micheal Obekpa, led an anti-crime patrol team to the area at about 4:00 a.m. on February 18, 2026, following a distress call that hoodlums had invaded the hostel.
On sighting the police team, the suspects fled into the surrounding bush. A combing operation of the area led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol and an expended cartridge believed to have been abandoned by the suspects.
Police also recovered three mobile phones — an iPhone XR, a Samsung device, and a Tecno touch-light phone, as well as an earpod and a power bank.
