Court sentences two to death in Jigawa

The Jigawa State High Court sitting in Birnin Kudu on Friday sentenced two persons to death for conspiring and killing Yakubu Ibrahim and dumping his dead body by the roadside.

The suspects were arraigned before the court for conspiring and robbing the deceased of his phone, money and taking away his car, after killing him.

The offence was said to have been committed on August 30, 2021, along the Kano-Maiduguri Road at Kantoga roadside in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Prosecution counsel called four witnesses and tendered four exhibits in the case thereby proving the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The presiding judge, Justice Musa Ubale said the convicts were all found guilty on all the three count charges and as such they were sentenced to life imprisonment each on the offence of criminal conspiracy.

On the offence of robbery, they were all sentenced to 21 years imprisonment without the option of fine.

The court, however, sentenced the convicts on the last count to death by hanging pursuant to sections 97 (1), 298 (1) (a) and 221 (b) of the Penal Code respectively.

The convicts were given three months’ right of appeal.
