The government’s renewed commitment to parental involvement in education took a significant step forward on Thursday, September 25, 2025 as the National Curriculum Review Committee and PTA Association formally presented a comprehensive report containing guidelines to operationalize Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in schools across Ghana.
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, speaking at the presentation ceremony in Accra, lauded the committee for its work in producing a framework that will not only revive PTAs but also help schools provide a safe and secure learning environment.
“Our concept of socialization in Ghana is shared efforts. Parents support teachers and teachers support parents. Together, they are responsible for shaping the lives of our children”, he indicated.
He emphasized that the new guidelines will empower PTAs to play a more active role in improving learning outcomes, while also fostering accountability and collaboration within the educational system.
In addressing current public concerns, the Minister reassured Ghanaians that the placement of candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is being handled with strict neutrality and integrity.
“All concerns related to placement will be addressed properly,” he said. “Neither I nor the Director-General has access to manipulate placements. The process remains free from political or ministerial interference”, he assured.
As part of broader efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and crisis response, the Minister announced that President John Dramani Mahama will launch Ghana’s first-ever National Alumni Fund in early 2026.
The fund will provide immediate financial support to schools affected by emergencies such as fire outbreaks, rainstorms, or natural disasters.
“This fund will ensure that when emergencies strike, we don’t have to wait for long government procedures to respond,” he explained.
“Alumni will have the opportunity to give back and the fund will be managed with transparency and credibility”, he added.
Haruna Iddrisu further called on civil society organizations, old student associations and the private sector to support the government’s efforts in building a resilient education sector.
“Government alone cannot shoulder the cost of financing education,” he said. “We need partnerships to sustain and grow .
