The Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission has commenced an investigation into the alleged age falsification by the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Yahya Audu Omogbai.

DAILY POST reports that the probe follows a petition submitted by concerned staff of the Edo State House of Assembly.

The chairman of the commission, Hon. Ezehi M.D. Igbas, in an invitation to the embattled clerk, stated that a three-man ad hoc committee has been constituted to carry out the investigation.

The invitation letter, dated October 13, 2025, scheduled October 14, 2025, for the clerk to appear before the committee for an interview session.

The clerk was directed to appear at the conference hall of the commission at 2 pm at No. 20, Oghosa Crescent, off Ihama Road, GRA, Benin City.

The concerned staff, in their petition dated October 10, 2025, accused the clerk of falsifying his age to elongate his tenure in office.

They alleged that the clerk has surpassed the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.

They also claimed that, based on his initial appointment dated back to 1993, he would have exceeded the statutory 30 years in service.

The petitioners further accused the embattled clerk of obstructing the investigation by allegedly withholding official file records related to the allegations.

They, however, urged the commission to investigate the claims thoroughly and take appropriate action to uphold integrity and adherence to regulations within the Edo State House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, staff of the Edo State Assembly have protested against the involvement of operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in their verification exercise.

The workers, in large numbers, condemned the development, stating that the involvement of the anti-graft agency contravened the previous physical verification exercises they were accustomed to.

However, some staff welcomed the development, alleging that ghost workers populate the Assembly’s payroll and that the EFCC’s involvement is necessary to identify and remove them from service.
