Former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, on Saturday said Igbos would always rise above pettiness and embrace each other.

Chidoka noted that quarrels and fights among Igbos are not deep-skinned because they are a class act.

He made the remark while commenting on the turnout of Igbo sons and daughters during the burial of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Anambra State.

Ubah who died in London was buried in his hometown of Umuanuka, Otolo Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday.

Speaking about the burial in a video he posted on X, Chidoka said: “At Ifeanyi Uba’s funeral, For everybody, a day like this will come ~ Oge Chukwu Ka nma

“I am proud of Ndi Igbo, despite….despite they all came from all corners to wish our brother farewell.

“Anambra people and politicians are a class act; our fights and quarrels are not skin deep. We always rise above pettiness to show solidarity and embrace each other over politics.

“Ndi Nnewi showed why they are the wealthiest town south of the Sahara. The business class in Nnewi stood by their brother, notwithstanding issues and disagreements. Anaedo di special.

Overhaul educational system to align with industry needs- Zulum to Nigerian govt

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s education system to address the disconnect between educational institutions and the needs of industries.

The Governor made the call during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr Akintunde Sawyerr.

Special Adviser to Borno State Governor on Media, Dauda Iliya, in a statement, indicated that Zulum expressed concern that many graduates produced by higher institutions lack the necessary skills to drive innovation and technological advancement.

He urged NELFUND to critically assess the issue and implement solutions that enable graduates to become self-employed rather than depend on limited job opportunities.

“We have two major problems in our educational system: the mismatch between educational institutions and industries, as they do not communicate effectively, and the mismatch between the labour market and graduates, many of whom are unprepared to work in the industries,” Zulum stated.

The Governor further tasked NELFUND to support entrepreneurship, technical education, and vocational training programs.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (Nelfund), Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, highlighted the fund’s mission which is to tackle the growing issue of students dropping out due to financial constraints.

He noted that the loan is interest-free, with repayment set at 10% of the recipient’s income upon securing employment.

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has assured that President Bola Tinubu is determined to end insecurity in the Southeast and Nigeria.

Badaru said a secure environment is crucial for business growth and peace, hence the need to end insecurity in the region.

Addressing military officers during an operational visit to Enugu, the Minister urged the military personnel to intensify efforts to combat the region’s insecurity.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry’s spokesman, Henshaw Ogbuike.

“There is a renewed determination to intensify our efforts against all forms of insecurity under President Tinubu’s leadership,” Badaru said.

Badaru added that Tinubu’s commitment to eradicating all forms of insecurity is restricted not only to a region but also nationwide.

The minister said in the last year, significant progress had been made to that effect.

In Imo, Badaru visited Hope Uzodimma, the state governor, and extended his gratitude for his support of the military operations.

“We are determined to end insecurity in Nigeria,” he said.

This is coming when a self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra, Simon Ekpa was arrested and detained in Finland for terrorism-related charges.

Ekpa has been one of those sponsoring terrorism in the Southeast through the enforcement of sit-at-home and unknown gunmen activities.

Enugu govt urges livestock farmers to embrace artificial insemination

Livestock farmers in Enugu State have been advised to embrace advanced knowledge in artificial insemination techniques to boost production.

The advice came weekend, ahead of the training of livestock farmers in the state on the procedures and use of modern artificial insemination equipment at the National Animal Production Research Institute, Zamfara State.

The State Project Coordinator of Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, L-PRESS, Dr Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, said the government was keen to diversify the state’s economy using livestock.

“Enugu State, for a long time, has neglected the livestock sector, and we want to resuscitate, revitalize, and rejig the sector.

“We have academics, small and large livestock farmers, civil servants from the Ministry of Agriculture, veterinary doctors, among others.

“All these were selected to ensure that knowledge transfer, sustainability, and records are kept for future exploration.”

Explaining the objectives of the training, the Value Chain Officer of L-PRES Enugu State, Mrs Mamel-Akpata Chinenyenwa, said the training will boost livestock productivity in the state, adding that maximum application of the skills acquired would grow the state’s economy.

“The training is to arm Enugu-based livestock farmers with the necessary skills that will enable them to manage artificial insemination.

“They will also improve their understanding of reproductive biology and breeding management principles and promote proper use and maintenance.

The Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture, Victor Ngwu said Governor Peter Mbah’s vision of moving the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion is not a joke as the government had invested so much in agriculture.

Northern youths condemn suspension of ACF chairman

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has condemned the suspension of the chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Mamman Mike Osuman allegedly, for telling the truth to power.

A statement by the group’s National President, Isah Abubakar on Saturday in Kaduna said a situation where Northern leaders prioritise self-gain to the general growth and well-being of their people was bad.

”What has the chairman said that is not the true reflection of what many could not say for fear of favour? We, the Northern youth, feel highly ashamed of the behaviour of the so-called leaders of the ACF in suspending their chairman for being bold enough to tell truth to power at a time when everyone is afraid to do so.

”Their actions tell more of the reflection of present northern Nigeria where everyone works for selfish interest, this was not the Northern Nigeria Prof Ango Abdullahi stood for, not the Northern Nigeria of late Yusuf Maitama Sule, or the Northern Nigeria late justice Mamma Nasir stood for or late Chief Sunday Bolorunduro Awoniyi sacrifice for, this is a new Northern Nigeria where every individual works for his personal interest and don’t care of what happened to others.”

Abubakar called on the National Executive Council of the ACF to, as a matter of urgency, reverse their decision and return Mamman Osuman to his position and avoid anything that will further disgrace the organisation.

He warned that failure to heed the advice, members of NYCN will mobilise to shut down the headquarters of the ACF in Kaduna in the coming days.

He assured the general public that nobody can silence any group or organisation that is ready to tell the truth to power or bring facts to challenge the happening in the country,
