The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has declared that Eid-el-Fitr festival is not just a celebration.

Obasa noted that Eid-el-Fitr festival is a reminder of the values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity that Ramadan fast instills.

He made these declarations in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Dave Agboola and made available to DAILY POST on Thursday.

DAILY POST reports that the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has declared Thursday and Friday as the public holidays for Eid-el-Fitr festival celebration.

Obasa while facilitating with the Muslims on the occasion of the festival, reminded them that the festival is not about celebration alone.

He said that it is an avenue to remind the Muslims of the values of sacrifice, compassion and unity that Ramadan instills.

He described the festival as a season of joy, renewal, and gratitude.

Obasa admonished Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting Tinubu.

He added that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is already delivering measurable progress.

The statement reads, “Obasa, has extended warm greetings to the faithful, describing the festival as a season of joy, renewal, and gratitude.

“Obasa described Eid-el-Fitr as “not just a celebration; it is a reminder of the values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity that Ramadan instills.

“As our dear President steers the ship of Nigeria to the Promised Land, it is our duty as citizens to stand by him with prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support.”

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said the holy month of Ramadan represents more than abstinence, describing it as a period of compassion, social justice, and community service.

The governor also congratulated Muslim faithful in the state on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, commending their devotion and discipline throughout the period.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Thursday, Governor Adeleke acknowledged the spiritual commitment demonstrated by adherents during the month, noting its significance to both personal growth and societal harmony.

According to him, “The holy month of Ramadan represents not only abstinence but a deep commitment to compassion, social justice, and community service.”

He assured the Muslim community in Osun State that his administration remains attentive to their aspirations and values their contributions to the development of the state.

The governor added that his government would continue to protect their rights, support their institutions, and ensure fair inclusion in governance and development initiatives.

“Osun under my leadership will continue to be a state where religious harmony is preserved and where no group feels marginalised,” Adeleke stated.

He emphasised that policies and programmes of government would consistently reflect equity, sensitivity, and respect for all faiths.

Adeleke noted that the enduring lessons of Ramadan are essential to sustaining peace and progress across the state.

He urged Muslim faithful to sustain the virtues imbibed during the fasting period and continue to play active roles in strengthening social cohesion within their communities.

Addressing the Muslim Ummah, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to deliver people-focused governance, deepen grassroots engagement, and expand opportunities for all residents.

He also called on Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to pray for Osun State, celebrate peacefully, support one another, and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, assuring them that his government “stands with you, listens to you, and works for you accordingly.”

The frontline opposition leader, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerian Muslims to imbibe the spirit of Ramadan going forward after the 30-day fast.

Obi, in congratulating them for successfully completing the religious obligation in faith said “I join you with heartfelt joy as we celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the blessed festival that marks the successful completion of the sacred month of Ramadan.

“This occasion is a profound reminder of the power of faith, discipline, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to Almighty Allah.

“Throughout Ramadan, you have fasted, prayed, given charity, and drawn closer to God embodying values that inspire not only the Muslim ummah but every person of goodwill.

“These lessons of compassion, humility, patience, and solidarity must not end with the month; may they continue to guide our hearts, our actions, and our shared life as Nigerians.”

Obi noted that, “In these challenging times for our nation; marked by hardship, insecurity, and the urgent need for renewal. Let the spirit of Eid strengthen our resolve to stand together.

“Let us extend hands of kindness to the vulnerable, promote peace across our communities, reject division in all its forms, and work tirelessly for a just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen thrives.

“I pray that Almighty Allah accepts your ibadah, forgives our shortcomings, showers His boundless mercy upon you and your families, and grants our beloved country lasting peace, security, healing, and progress.

“To the entire Muslim ummah: May this Eid bring you immense joy, renewed hope, good health, and abundant blessings. May we all continue to build bridges of understanding, love, and unity as one people under God.”

Peter Obi salutes Muslims at Eid al-Fitr, urges Ramadan spirit going forward

President Bola Tinubu has called on Muslims in Nigeria to use the Eid-el-Fitr and offer prayers for peace and prosperity to prevail in the country.

Tinubu’s message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday.

He charged Nigerian Muslims to rededicate themselves to the noble teachings of the holy month, which emphasise piety, empathy, and unity among humanity.

“As Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Muslim faithful in Nigeria, urging renewed commitment to the nation and humanity.

“We have a lot to draw from the noble lessons of Ramadan, especially at a time like this. We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness and compassion beyond this period,” he said.

President Tinubu urged all Muslim faithful to extend a hand of kindness to the needy of all faiths, to further show unity and camaraderie.
