Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has spoken after escaping an assassination attempt.
DAILY POST had reported that gunmen attacked the convoy of the former Anambra State governor in Edo State on Tuesday.
Obi spoke in a video circulating online following the attack at the residence of former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, where gunmen reportedly opened fire, riddling the gate and several vehicles with bullets.
“This is where our democracy has reached. A former governor, and you can see what happened in front of his house, where hoodlums came shooting.
“I assure you this cannot continue; we have a country, and we are a part of it. We cannot have terrorism and have officials in government terrorising the citizens.”
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after Obi, Odigie-Oyegun, and other political figures attended the formal declaration of Barrister Olumide Akpata into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin.
A video from the scene showed visible bullet holes on the estate gate and damaged vehicles, indicating the intensity of the attack.
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, said the attackers allegedly trailed the group from the ADC Secretariat to Odigie-Oyegun’s residence before opening fire.
According to him, the assailants shot at the gate and destroyed several official vehicles in what he described as a failed assassination attempt targeting the political leaders.

A political and policy advocacy group, Progressives Think Tank, has applauded the Federal Government over what it described as a “hard-fought” victory in the recent international arbitration dispute involving a UK-based technology contractor.
DAILY POST recalls that the Nigerian government again secured victory against an international technology contractor, European Dynamics UK Ltd., in a $6.2 million arbitration.
The firm had entered into a dispute with Nigeria’s Bureau of Public Procurement over a national e-procurement project.
According to the ruling, which is final and not subject to appeal, the tribunal dismissed the contractor’s claims in their entirety, relieving Nigeria of potential financial exposure estimated at over $6.2 million (approximately N9.3 billion) in claimed payments and damages.
Reacting, the group said the outcome of the arbitration, which reportedly saved Nigeria about $6.2 million (approximately ₦9.3 billion) in potential liabilities, reflects the government’s resolve to protect public funds and uphold contractual standards.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Ms. Christiana Titus, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Monday, the group noted that the arbitration tribunal dismissed all claims against Nigeria in the dispute with European Dynamics UK Ltd.
The Think Tank commended the roles played by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, in defending the country’s legal and procurement processes.
“This success, which saw the arbitration tribunal dismiss all claims against Nigeria and save the nation over $6.2 million (approximately ₦9.3 billion) in potential liabilities, stands as a testament to effective leadership, legal acumen, and a patriotic commitment to protecting our national resources and public interest.
“We applaud Attorney-General Prince Fagbemi (SAN) for his assertive defence of Nigeria’s legal position, reflecting a robust justice system that is increasingly unafraid to confront complex international disputes. His leadership reinforces the crucial principle that contractual obligations must be honoured only when value is demonstrably delivered.
According to the statement, the Federal Government’s handling of the matter demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that public resources are not expended on services that fail to meet agreed contractual and technical standards.
The group added that the outcome reinforces the importance of institutional coordination and adherence to due process in resolving complex international disputes.
It further stated that the decision sends a signal that Nigeria is prepared to assert its position in contractual matters while prioritising transparency, accountability, and value for money in public procurement.

A chieftain of the Adamawa All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdulrahman Haske, has condemned, in the strongest terms, the terrorist attack on Garaha District in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
He described it as an attack not just on a community, but on the stability and future of the entire Northeast.
The attack, carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Garaha District on Saturday, February 22, 2026, reportedly left three people dead and resulted in the burning of military and school facilities in the village.
In a press statement signed by his publicity secretary, Abdulgaffar Ahmed, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Monday, Haske said the killing of soldiers and a civilian woman, along with the destruction of a school and other facilities, was a painful tragedy and a reminder that enemies of progress still seek to destabilise the Northeast.
He, however, praised the bravery of Nigerian troops who defended the community, noting that their sacrifice reflects the spirit of service and patriotism that keeps Nigeria united.
“The APC remains committed to protecting lives, strengthening security, and rebuilding affected communities as part of its broader vision of peace, stability, and inclusive development,” he was quoted as saying in the release.
He commended the security coordination and reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, stating that improved synergy among security agencies was strengthening the fight against insurgency across the Northeast.
According to him, the APC-led government’s Renewed Hope Agenda prioritises security, rural development, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and economic opportunities, all of which are essential to defeating extremism and restoring lasting peace.
Speaking directly to grassroots communities across Hong, Gombi, Song, Mubi, Michika, Madagali, and other frontline areas, Haske urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, protect one another, and promptly report suspicious movements to law enforcement agencies and community leaders.
“Terrorism succeeds only where communities are divided, but fails where people stand united, share information, and defend their neighborhoods together. Hence, I call on our traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, hunters, vigilante networks, and civil society organisations to strengthen grassroots security cooperation and awareness, and enhance community watch efforts to prevent criminal infiltration,” Haske said.
He reaffirmed that the people of Adamawa are resilient, peace-loving, and united, and will never surrender their communities to fear, violence, or intimidation, assuring that the APC stands firmly with the people of Adamawa, as in other states, and is “committed to reconstruction, social protection, and development initiatives that restore livelihoods and strengthen community resilience.”
Haske further urged unity beyond ethnic, religious, or political lines, emphasizing that protecting lives, preserving peace, and securing the future of Adamawa State must remain a shared responsibility.
