The Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) has dismissed a recent publication by Fact-Check Ghana suggesting that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS) has not been rolled out or is not in use at the facility.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 20 November 2025, by the Public Relations Officer, the hospital described the report as inaccurate and misleading, stressing that it does not reflect the true status of digital health implementation at CCTH.
According to the hospital, GHIMS has been successfully deployed and is actively being used across several major clinical units. Five departments, including the Polyclinic OPD, Specialist Pharmacy, Child Health OPD, Family Medicine OPD and the Dental, Eye and ENT Unit (DEENT), are fully live on the system and rely on it daily for patient care, documentation, diagnostics, pharmacy processes and billing.
CCTH stated that these units represent some of its busiest service points, and their smooth transition to GHIMS demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to strengthening digital-enabled healthcare delivery.
The statement explained that other departments earmarked for the next phase of deployment are undergoing staff training and are at various stages of commencing live utilisation under the supervision of the implementation team and technical partners.
The hospital said the phased rollout approach is deliberate, ensuring full staff readiness, smooth workflow transition, minimal service disruption and high-quality data capture from day one. It emphasised that no department has refused, rejected or abandoned GHIMS at any point.
CCTH further expressed concern that Fact-Check Ghana did not contact the hospital for verification before publishing the claims, a lapse it said resulted in an inaccurate portrayal of its operational reality and may have misled the public.
The hospital reaffirmed that it remains open to all media organisations, civil society institutions and fact-checking bodies seeking clarification on matters relating to its operations.
Reiterating its support for the Ministry of Health’s national digital transformation agenda, CCTH said GHIMS continues to enhance clinical efficiency, patient record management, diagnostic and pharmacy workflows, data-driven decision-making and transparent billing and claims processes.
The hospital assured the public that the system’s utilisation will continue to expand until every department is fully live and integrated in line with national digital health standards.
