Cabo Verde President reaffirms commitment to a stronger ECOWAS during Abuja visit

The President of Cabo Verde, H.E. José Maria Pereira Neves, has reiterated his country’s commitment to the ideals of a united, stable and prosperous West Africa under the framework of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

He gave the assurance during an official visit to the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, on Thursday, 2 October 2025.

Welcomed by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Omar Alieu Touray, President Neves held discussions on strengthening relations between Cabo Verde and the regional body. Talks also covered ongoing political and security developments in West Africa, including ECOWAS’ engagement with the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

President Neves emphasised that Cabo Verde, together with fellow Member States, remains firmly committed to building an ECOWAS region that is more resilient, better integrated and focused on improving the lives of its citizens.

His visit underlined Cabo Verde’s continued support for regional integration and collective efforts to address the political, economic and security challenges facing West Africa.
