Tragedy struck a wedding in Jahun Local Government Area, Jigawa State, as a bride allegedly poisoned food served at the reception, resulting in the death of one guest and leaving the groom in critical condition.

According to Punch, eyewitnesses suggested the act might have been motivated by a personal grievance.

Speaking on Friday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident and revealed that two suspects, including the bride and another woman, have been arrested.

“We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill.

“Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged food poisoning incident that occurred during a wedding ceremony in the state,” Adam said.

He added that the suspects are currently being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department, promising a thorough investigation to ensure justice is delivered.

Adam further confirmed that all other attendees who consumed the tainted food have been treated and discharged from the hospital, except for the deceased.

The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The command is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and we will provide more details as soon as possible.

“For now, we can confirm that the incident occurred, and we are working tirelessly to unravel the facts. We urge the public to remain calm and assured that justice will be served,” Adam assured the public.

Details regarding the identities of the deceased, the groom, and other victims have not yet been disclosed.
