A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fisayo Oladipo, was shot dead in the early hours of Monday during a suspected cult clash in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Oladipo, 52, popularly known as “Fissy,” was attacked at his residence in the Ehin-Ogbe area of Owo around 2:00 a.m. by suspected members of the Eiye confraternity.

Sources who spoke with Peoples Gazette disclosed that the gunmen trailed the APC youth leader home after he returned from a nightclub and shot him in the chest.

In addition to Oladipo, two other unidentified young men were reportedly killed in the same incident.

A source who spoke with the platform disclosed, “He [Oladipo] was trailed to his house in Ehin-Ogbe and shot immediately in the chest. Sporadic gunshots followed, and it’s a tragic loss for the community.”

The bodies of Oladipo and the other victims have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) morgue in Owo.

The Commander of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oluyemi Ibiloye,  confirmed the attack and assured residents that security forces were working to restore calm in the area.

“Our men are on the ground with heavy deployment, assisting other security agencies. The situation is under control, and we await further updates from officials,” Ibiloye said.

Ibiloye attributed the killings to a clash between rival cult groups, a recurring issue in the region.
