At least three bomb explosives were reportedly discovered by farmers in Ganaru community, Zugurma district of Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was gathered that the explosives were found by the roadside by farmers on their way to their farming activities, who raised the alarm on Monday.

Immediately, the council chairman, Jibrin Egade, was informed, and he promptly cordoned off the area to prevent casualties.

Confirming the development, Egade expressed shock at the discovery, stating that the community has so far not experienced security challenges.

According to him, “We were shocked to discover such dangerous explosives in a community where there are no security challenges. This development is a surprise to me and the entire community.

“And immediately, I have informed the security agencies on the matter.”

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, also confirmed the incident, stating that the command has already dispatched bomb experts to the scene to assess and, if necessary, detonate the explosives.

He, however, disclosed that only one explosive was discovered, not three as initially claimed by the villagers.

The commissioner also called on residents of the area to go about their normal businesses without fear of intimidation.
