One member of a vigilante group has reportedly died and another injured after suspected Boko Haram terrorists invaded their camp in Dapchi, the headquarters of Bursari Local Government Area in Yobe State.
According to multiple sources, the attack occurred at about 9:30 pm yesterday.
A resident of Dapchi, who pleaded anonymity, said, “The suspected terrorists specifically targeted the vigilante camp. They stormed the camp, killed one vigilante member and injured another one”.
According to him, the suspected terrorists also carted away a vehicle belonging to the vigilante group and burnt another when it failed to start.
A message was sent to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Command regarding the incident, but there was no reply as of the time of filing this report.
The attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on Dapchi town came less than 24 hours after an attempt by suspected terrorists to infiltrate Damaturu metropolis through the eastern flank on Saturday.
Recall that Dapchi, the headquarters of Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State, gained international attention in 2018 when Boko Haram insurgents kidnapped 110 schoolgirls from the Government Science and Technical College.
The incident sparked widespread outrage and concern, and 101 of the girls were eventually released, while one girl, Leah Sharibu, remains in captivity.
