EPL: Tottenham aim for league double against Man City as Guardiola plots revenge

The stage is set for one of the biggest Premier League matches this weekend as Tottenham hosts Manchester City.

The Premier League match will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 5.30 pm.

The last time both teams met in the Premier League was last August at the Etihad Stadium.

Spurs defeated the Cityzens 2-0, thanks to goals from Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha.

Tottenham currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League table, while Man City are in second position with seven points behind leaders Arsenal.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola will hope to get revenge against Tottenham to help close the points gap on Arsenal.

Guardiola will be without winger Jeremy Doku, who sustained a calf injury against Galatasaray in the Champions League in mid-week.

The Belgium international joins John Stones (thigh), Mateo Kovacic (ankle), Savinho (thigh), Ruben Dias (hamstring), and Josko Gvardiol (leg) on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Thomas Frank will hope to get a league double win against City after beating them in the reverse fixture last year.

Frank will welcome Mathys Tel, Radu Dragusin, Conor Gallagher, and Yves Bissouma in his squad to face Guardiola’s side.

However, he will be without Richarlison (hamstring), Rodrigo Bentancur (hamstring), James Maddison (knee), Mohammed Kudus (thigh), Dejan Kulusevski (knee), Ben Davies (ankle), Pedro Porro (hamstring), and Lucas Bergvall (ankle) due to injury.

NPFL: Atule leaves Enyimba for Barau FC

Joseph Atule has sealed a move to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, side Barau FC.

Atule joined the Maliya Boys from NPFL giants Enyimba.

The energetic forward featured sporadically for the People’s Elephant this season.

Atule managed only nine appearances for Enyimba.

His move to Kano with Barau FC is expected to help revive his career in the NPFL.

Atule was one of the top performers in the NPFL during the 2022-23 season.

He turned down a big money move to Rivers United to join Enyimba in 2023.

Atule previously played for Lobi Stars in the NPFL.

NPFL: Wikki Tourists’ Abubakar Aliyu returns for Nasarawa United clash

Wikki Tourists have confirmed the availability of Abubakar Aliyu for their matchday 24 clash against Nasarawa United.

Aliyu will make a return from an injury which kept him out of the last match against Abia Warriors.

The midfielder’s return is a big boost for Abdullahi Maikaba’s side who are determined to consolidate on their impressive performance in Umuahia last week.

The Bauchi Elephants will trade tackles with Nasarawa United at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi on Sunday (today).

Meanwhile, Nasiru Jibrin will miss the game.

Jibrin is recovering from an ankle injury sustained in the clash against Warri Wolves.

Fela receives Grammy Lifetime Achievement award

Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has etched his name into history as the first African musician to be conferred with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy.

The honour was bestowed posthumously at the 2026 Special Merit Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday, January 31, a day before the main Grammy Awards ceremony. His children Yeni, Kunle, Shalewa and Femi Kuti were present to receive the award on his behalf.

While addressing the audience, Yeni Kuti thanked the Recording Academy and said she believed their father would be “smiling down on us.”

She also recognised her siblings Motunrayo and Seun, who were absent, and applauded her nephew Made Kuti for pushing Afrobeat to greater heights.

“I’m sure my father is smiling down on us. I want to acknowledge my siblings who couldn’t be here tonight, Motunrayo and Seun, and my nephew who is carrying Afrobeat to another level, Made.”

Femi Kuti, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to those who have helped sustain and spread Afrobeat across the world, including DJs, media practitioners, their record label Partisan, legal teams and fans globally. He described the recognition as a milestone not just for their late father, but for Africa and the global fight for justice.

“I would like to thank all the people carrying Afrobeat that are in this place tonight. DJs, the press, our label Partisan, our lawyers, fans all over the world. Thank you for bringing our father here, it’s so important for Africa. It’s so important for world peace and struggle., Femi said.

Fela shared the prestigious honour with other celebrated figures in global music, among them Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Cher and Paul Simon.
