Hot SourceThe Office of the Honourable Minister for Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has firmly denied any involvement in an alleged investment scheme being circulated online via a deepfake video.
In a statement released today, the Minister’s Media Relations Office, described the video as, “a complete fabrication” and a malicious attempt to mislead the public.
The video, which has been shared on social media platforms, particularly Facebook, shows a manipulated version of the Honourable Minister, appearing to endorse a so-called government-backed investment program.
The video, includes banners that falsely claim:“A government platform guarantees an income of 10,500 per week” and “Invest 2,600 today and receive your first payment into your bank account as early as tomorrow.”
The Media Relations Office, stated unequivocally that the Honourable Minister has no association with any such scheme and has never endorsed or promoted any financial investment program of this nature.
“This video is a dangerous deepfake designed by scammers to defraud innocent Ghanaians,” the statement said.
“We urge the public to completely disregard this content and avoid interacting with or sharing it in any form”, the statement said .
The Office emphasized that the Honourable Minister takes the misuse of his image and public trust very seriously and has initiated steps to work with the appropriate authorities to investigate the source of the video and ensure its removal from all platforms.
The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any similar suspicious content to the relevant agencies or the Minister’s office directly.
“Let it be clearly stated: The Honourable Minister Haruna Iddrisu has no connection whatsoever to any online money-making or investment scheme. This video is false, malicious, and fraudulent,” the statement concluded.
