Hot SourceFormer vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia has thrown down a gauntlet to his New Patriotic Party (NPP) faithful: stop the backbiting or forget about a return to power in 2028.
On a three-day zonal constituency swing through the Ashanti Region, the 2024 presidential candidate warned that loose talk and petty feuds are feeding the opposition—and could cost the party its comeback bid.
Touching on the looming flagbearer race ahead of the 2028 general elections, Bawumia warned that reckless campaigning could fracture the party. He stressed that victory would only be possible if the NPP presented a united front, insisting that the party remains a formidable political machine when its members close ranks.
For him, the surest path back to Jubilee House in 2028 lies in solidarity, not division.
“Unity is non-negotiable if we want to win in 2028. Without unity we cannot win,” he stated, adding “The NPP is a formidable force when we come together with a single purpose. When we unite and work together, we will make a swift return to the Jubilee House.”
With the race to choose the party’s next flagbearer already stirring tension, Bawumia urged camps backing various aspirants to keep their campaigns clean.
The Vice-President pledged to personally reach across factional lines after the primaries, “I want everyone to know and understand that I have no issues with anyone, so don’t look at someone helping with my campaign and decide not to vote for me. You will be voting for me, not the person. Please vote for me and forgive the person.
“If God gives me victory, I will do everything in my power to bring my fellow competitors and their supporters on board, so we work together and achieve victory. The best Candidate will struggle to make headway if there is disunity in the party he leads. I urge us all to keep this constantly in our minds, and do whatever it takes to build a strong, united NPP capable of prosecuting a formidable campaign and winning national elections,” he said.
