Bauchi: PRP blasts Gov Bala Mohammed, state assembly’s plans to spend N3.4bn on fuelling vehicles, generators

The Bauchi State Chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has condemned the allocation of over N3.4 billion for fueling vehicles, generators, and travel expenses in the 2025 budget by the Bauchi State Government and the State House of Assembly, describing it as a shameful display of mismanagement and greed.

In a statement issued on Friday by its State Secretary, Wada Abdullahi, the party expressed concern over the government’s misplaced priorities amid the economic struggles faced by the people of Bauchi State, calling for accountability from those in power.

The statement criticized the N1 billion earmarked for fueling vehicles and generators at the Government House, highlighting that N500 million was set aside for vehicle fuel, while another N500 million was allocated for generator fuel.

“This outrageous allocation of N1 billion not only underscores the extravagant lifestyle of our leaders but also paints a disturbing picture of their mismanagement of state resources. While families in Bauchi struggle to make ends meet, our government appears more focused on luxury than on addressing the pressing needs of its citizens,” the statement read.

Abdullahi further revealed that the State House of Assembly plans to spend an additional N1.4 billion on travel expenses, describing it as an alarming misappropriation of public funds.

He questioned how many life-changing healthcare facilities or schools could have been built with such an amount, criticizing the government for prioritizing personal indulgences over critical community needs.

“As if that wasn’t enough, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government has allocated another N1 billion for international travel.

“Meanwhile, our hospitals lack basic medical equipment, our schools remain underfunded, and our roads are in disrepair. It’s disheartening that the government deems foreign trips more important than addressing the urgent issues affecting our people,” he lamented.

“This serves as a reminder that our leaders are more focused on their own interests rather than the welfare of the people they were elected to serve,” the statement said.

The party issued a stern warning to Governor Bala Mohammed and members of the State House of Assembly, urging them to abandon what it described as a “treacherous path of misappropriation and mismanagement of public funds.”

The party called on citizens to stand against the culture of impunity and demand accountability from their elected officials.

“The citizens of Bauchi must unite in the quest for good governance and put an end to the systematic looting of their resources. It’s time for them to reclaim their state from leaders whose greed threatens its future,” the statement added.
