The Association of VRA Technician Engineers (AVRATE) has successfully held its Biennial National Delegates Congress 2025 under the theme: “Securing a Sustainable Future: VRA and AVRATE in Partnership.”
The two-day congress brought together members from VRA and NEDCo, as well as Management of the Volta River Authority, industry experts, and partners in Ghana’s power sector to deliberate on the future of energy sustainability, capacity building, and partnerships.
On the first day, the congress opened with a statement from Mr. Richard Yamoah, (AVRATE National Chairman and Chief Technician Engineer, VRA), who emphasized the Association’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Management of VRA and NEDCo in achieving the Authority’s corporate vision, mission, and objectives.
He underscored the importance of sustainable employment, viable operations, and the Association’s role in major national energy projects.
Delivering the keynote presentation on the theme, Engineer Henry Kojo Boateng, (National President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Ghana), highlighted the need to safeguard Ghana’s energy assets, invest in renewable technologies such as solar and wind, and adopt forward-looking strategies to ensure sustainability. He also called for stronger collaboration between government, management, and professionals to protect the Authority’s legacy.
The Special Guest of Honour, Mr. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, (Ag. Chief Executive of VRA), commended AVRATE for its crucial role in VRA’s successes, citing the Anwomaso Thermal Plant project as proof of their competence and dedication.
He stressed that the theme, “Securing a Sustainable Future, VRA and AVRATE in Partnership,” reflects a mission of unity, innovation, and sustainability. With upcoming capacity expansion projects, he urged AVRATE to continue providing their expertise and commitment, while fostering teamwork, knowledge sharing, and collaboration with stakeholders.
He concluded by calling for visionary leadership and action today that will shape VRA’s legacy, ensuring reliable, affordable energy and a sustainable future for Ghana.
Additional remarks were delivered by senior executives of VRA, including the Deputy Chief Executives (Services), VRA, Mr. Samuel Fletcher; the Ag. Managing Director, NEDCo, Ing. John Okine Yamoah; the Director, Human Resources, Mr. Dominic Ofosuhene; with solidarity messages from the Society of VRA Engineers (SOVRAE), Senior Staff Association (SSA), and the Technician Engineers Association of GRIDCo (TEAG).
The second day of the congress focused on governance and capacity-building activities. Delegates reviewed and adopted reports from the 2022 congress, examined the 2022–2025 financial statements, and engaged in an open forum on accountability and transparency.
A key highlight was a panel discussion on Work-Life Balance, facilitated by Mr. Ebenezer Ayanful and Mr. Daniel Doh Datsomor, with moderation by Mr. Evan Eric Amoah, which encouraged participants to share strategies for maintaining productivity while safeguarding employee well-being.
The congress concluded with the dissolution of the National Executives, elections of new officers, and the swearing-in of the newly elected leadership, marking a fresh chapter in AVRATE’s journey.
The AVRATE National Delegates Congress 2025 reaffirmed the commitment of engineers, technicians, and management of VRA to sustainable energy development, innovative partnerships, and responsible leadership.
