The Lagos State Government has indicated plans to expand fire safety infrastructure across the state, following the addition of a new fire station as part of recently commissioned projects aimed at improving public safety and development.

According to a statement by the Lagos State government, the projects were unveiled during a two-day commissioning programme held from April 8 to April 9, 2026, under the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. The exercise was carried out on behalf of Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Godswill Akpabio.

Among the key projects delivered is the Tolu School Complex located in Olodi Apapa, Ajegunle, in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area. The complex comprises 36 schools, a modern fire station, and a stadium with 19 mini football pitches.

The inclusion of a fire station within the facility reflects the government’s efforts to protect lives and property while also supporting community growth.

A multi-agency complex named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was also commissioned during the event. The facility is expected to strengthen collaboration among emergency responders and other public service institutions in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, commended the government for its continued investment in safety infrastructure, noting that the new fire station will improve emergency response, especially in heavily populated areas.

“The additional fire station will significantly enhance emergency response coverage, particularly within densely populated communities,” Adeseye said.

Adeseye stated that with the addition of the Tolu Fire Station, the number of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) locations has increased to 25, making it the 11th fire station delivered by the current administration. He added that three more stations are at different stages of completion, with two already included in this year’s budget.

The development highlights the government’s continued focus on strengthening emergency services and building a safer, more resilient, and inclusive environment for residents across the state.

Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni has dismissed reports claiming he was suspended from the station, describing the allegation as false and misleading.

The rumour, which circulated online and was attributed to a post by High Chief Lawrence Igbins Okoro, alleged that Oseni was suspended following a disagreement with his superior during which he reportedly banged a table.

Reacting via his X account, Oseni firmly denied the claim, saying he is not facing any disciplinary action from his employers.

“This is a lie, the man is lying,” he wrote in one of his posts, adding, “I was not suspended, I am on a working visit to Germany.”

He further urged the public to disregard the report, insisting it was fabricated and calling for it to be reported.

“This is fake news, kindly report that account,” he added.

He maintained that he remains on official assignment and has not been suspended by Arise News.

Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni reacts to reports of suspension

The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents to play a more active role in keeping their communities safe by reporting suspicious activities and sharing useful information with security agencies.

The Commissioner of Police, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, made the appeal on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Command Headquarters in Dutse.

He assured the public that information provided to the police would be handled confidentially.

He said the fight against crime cannot be left to security agencies alone, noting that community members often see and know things that can help prevent attacks, theft, and other criminal acts before they occur.

According to him, the Command is focusing on proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and respect for human rights as part of efforts to improve safety across the state.

Stakeholders, however, pledged their support for closer cooperation with the police.

The Police Command said it would continue to engage residents and key groups across Jigawa as part of efforts to build trust and strengthen security statewide.

Police call for stronger community cooperation on Security in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Government has introduced a cross-border water strategy aimed at preventing recurring clashes between farmers and herders in border communities.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Hamisu Muhammad, Chief Press Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, and issued to journalists.

Governor Umar Namadi disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the Strategic Intelligence Management Institute, led by Ambassador M.D. Aliyu, during a courtesy visit at Government House, Dutse.

The governor said the seasonal movement of cattle and camels from neighbouring Niger Republic, especially during harsh weather conditions, often puts pressure on local resources and creates tension between farmers and pastoralists.

According to him, the state government responded by providing water facilities across the border to enable herders remain in their areas longer until crops are harvested in Jigawa communities.

He explained that the measure has significantly reduced disputes over farmland and grazing routes, while improving peaceful coexistence among affected communities.

Governor Namadi noted that the initiative forms part of the administration’s broader strategy of addressing security challenges through preventive, intelligence-driven, and community-based solutions rather than waiting for crises to occur.

He added that Jigawa’s relative peace, despite its location near volatile areas, is the result of deliberate policies, close collaboration with security agencies, and continuous engagement with border residents.

The governor assured the visiting delegation of the state government’s support, expressing confidence that the outcome of the study tour would help strengthen security strategies in Jigawa and across the country.

Earlier, Ambassador M.D. Aliyu said Jigawa was selected for the study visit because of its unique border dynamics and effective security management model.

He explained that the programme is designed to expose senior security and intelligence officers to practical solutions for tackling illegal migration, smuggling, and other transnational crimes.

Jigawa adopts cross-border water strategy to reduce farmer, herder clashes

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has called for peace and mutual respect between Christians and Muslims, condemning both blasphemy and lawlessness.

In a statement shared via Facebook on Tuesday, Gumi described both acts as irresponsible and contrary to religious teachings.

He stressed that Islam promotes order and respect, adding that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands.

He also urged non-Muslims to respect values considered sacred by Muslims and avoid actions that could be seen as desecration.

Gumi warned that foreign interests may be seeking to incite religious conflict in Nigeria but expressed confidence that most Nigerians would not engage in violence.

He added that anyone who breaks the law would be held accountable for their actions.

Gumi said: “A call to peace for every Christian and Muslim. Blasphemy and lawlessness are both irresponsible and antithetical to all religions.

“Islam, in particular, is a religion of order and respect. Nobody is allowed to take the law into their hands. We also hope non-Muslims will respect what Muslims hold sacred and desist from desecrating those values.

“As a nation, we should know there are foreign interests eager to see the country ignite into useless religious wars. Nonetheless, we should not be deceived, as the majority of Nigerians are not going to fight each other. Any lawbreaker will have nobody to blame but himself.”
