Champions League: 5 teams qualify for quarter-finals

Barcelona became the fifth team to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals, after they thrashed Newcastle 7-2 on Wednesday night.

The Catalans hosted the second leg of the last-16 tie, following a 1-1 draw at St James Park last week.

And it was the LaLiga side that took the lead through Raphinha’s precise finish.

Anthony Elanga equalized for the Magpies, but Marc Bernal restored Barca’s level again three minutes late.

Elanga’s second of the night seemed to ensure the game would be level at half time, but Hansi Flick’s men were awarded a penalty and Lamine Yamal converted.

The second half was all Barcelona, with goals from Fermin Lopez, Robert Lewandowski (brace) and Raphinha.

They join Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Sporting in the last eight.
