Fresh facts have emerged as to how Adeyemi Adewale, a 29-year-old player for Ilesa West Football Club, died.
DAILY POST had reported that Adewale died during the Isiaka Adeleke Memorial Cup finals held at Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Revealing the facts on Friday, the Ilesa West Football Club coach, Adewale Awe, said the footballer slumped a few minutes before the end of the match and died almost immediately.
Awe disclosed that the late footballer had shown no signs of any ailment before the match.
He also revealed that Adewale had planned to celebrate his birthday with his teammates after the match.
However, he added that his attention was drawn to Adewale shortly after he slumped on the field.
“Thursday was his birthday, and we had decided that after playing the match, we would return home to celebrate it.
“He ate on our way to Osogbo. When we got to the field, we dressed up and went in for the game. He was part of the team, and he didn’t complain of sickness. The first half ended, and we went on break.
“We started the second half, and about five minutes before the end of the second half, we got a free-kick. But the opposing coach was telling one of his players that a player had fallen down on the pitch. The opposing player rushed to him, and others did as well.
“We called for an ambulance, and the medical personnel tried to resuscitate him. Before we got to the hospital, he had given up.”
His death was also confirmed by the Osun State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, in a statement late on Thursday night.
Opalola said, “While the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final match was going on at Ataoja School of Science, one Adeyemi Adewale, ‘M’ 29 years, a player of Ilesa West Football team, slumped on the pitch. He was rushed to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by a doctor.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the late Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Cup, Oladele Bamiji, has expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident.
Bamiji, in a statement on Friday, said, “All efforts to rescue Adewale Adeyemi after he suddenly slumped on the pitch, at about the 84th minute of the 3rd place match between Ilesa West Local Government and Ejigbo Local Government football teams, proved abortive.”
He also condoled with the immediate and extended families of the deceased.

Posting on his Truth Social media handle, Trump wrote: “There is an Arctic blast sweeping the country. I don’t want to see people hurt or injured in any way.
“Therefore, I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda.”
The incoming President also informed his supporters that they could view the ceremony on screens inside the Capital One Arena.
He added that his presidential parade, initially set to feature marching bands and other groups proceeding down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House, would also be relocated to the Capital One Arena.
Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democrats in the November 2024 presidential election, securing the highest number of electoral college votes.

The Ologotun of Ogotun Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adesanmi Ademeso, and the entire Ologotun-in-Council have expressed deep shock and sadness over the passage into eternal glory of a great community leader, philanthropist, moral compass, and retired Acting Chief Judge of the old Ondo State, Justice Edward Adepoju Ojuolape.
Justice Ojuolape, a former Acting Chief Judge of the old Ondo State (comprising present Ondo and Ekiti States), died two days ago at the ripe age of 98.
In a condolence message, the Ologotun described the deceased as a trailblazer.
“The colossal judicial juggernaut was a great development mobilizer in the state, a political galvanizer in Ekiti State after leaving the bench, and a moral compass in both the Ondo and Ekiti State Judiciaries.”
Speaking on the death of the great community leader, who in retirement became the leader of the PDP Elders Forum, Oba Ademeso expressed deep sorrow over his passage, describing his transition as “a peaceful departure to eternal glory of a highly cerebral jurist and deeply loved community leader.”
In a heartfelt condolence message, the paramount ruler further extolled the virtues of the late jurist, whom he described as a pillar of wisdom, integrity, and unwavering dedication to service.
“The entire Ologotun-in-Council is saddened by this demise,” the royal father said.
According to him, “the late judge was a man of exemplary character, simplicity, and dedication who left an indelible legacy of service not only to his family and community but also to the two states of Ondo and Ekiti and the nation at large, particularly through his significant contributions to legal jurisprudence.”
Reflecting on the remarkable life of the late legal luminary, Oba Adebayo Ademeso said, “His life was a testament to the values he upheld, and his impact will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him, especially in Ogotun Ekiti, his hometown. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
Born on May 17, 1927, Hon. Justice Ojuolape answered the divine call on January 16, 2025, at the extraordinary age of 98. His life and legacy will forever serve as a beacon of inspiration to generations to come, the royal father said.

Impeached President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, on Saturday attended a court hearing to oppose a request by investigators to extend his detention on accusations of insurrection.
DAILY POST reports that Yoon, on Wednesday, became the country’s first sitting president to be arrested in connection with a criminal probe related to his short-lived declaration of martial law on December 3.
Recall that investigators on Friday requested a detention warrant to extend their custody of Yoon for up to 20 days.
The embattled president has been refusing to cooperate with investigators and has been held at the Seoul Detention Centre since his arrest.
Meanwhile, the police dispersed a crowd of Yoon’s supporters blocking the gate of Seoul Western District Court, where the hearing began at around 2 p.m. (0500 GMT).
A decision is expected on Saturday or Sunday.
“He decided to attend to restore his honour by directly explaining the legitimacy of emergency martial law and asserting that insurrection is not established,” Yoon’s lawyer, Yoon Kab-keun, said in a statement.
DAILY POST further reports that insurrection, the crime alleged against Yoon by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, is one of the few charges for which an incumbent South Korean president does not have immunity.

The Kano State Police Command has recovered two motor vehicles reported stolen, using the Nigeria Police Force’s Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform. This was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, S.P Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Friday. According to the statement, the incidents occurred on separate occasions earlier in January.

The Kano State Police Command has recovered two motor vehicles reported stolen, using the Nigeria Police Force’s Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, S.P Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Friday.
According to the statement, the incidents occurred on separate occasions earlier in January.
“On January 1, a resident of Abuja reported that two unidentified individuals approached his car stand in Zuba, Abuja, expressing interest in a Toyota Corolla 2014 model. During a test drive, the suspects brandished a pistol, threatened the victim, and fled with the vehicle, including its original documents and keys.”
Similarly, on January 4, a Mercedes Benz C300 parked in front of Luxirian Event Center in Nassarawa GRA, Kano, was stolen from its owner, a resident of Hadejia Road, Kano.
In response, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, deployed detectives from the Anti-Car Theft Unit to recover the stolen vehicles.
“Acting on information obtained from the e-CMR platform, the team located the stolen Toyota Corolla behind the old Airport in Bauchi State and the Mercedes Benz in Shagari Quarters, Kano. The recovery efforts spanned January 10 to January 15,” the statement added.
Speaking on the operation, CP Salman Dogo Garba commended the detectives for their efficiency.
He encouraged members of the public to register their vehicles on the e-CMR platform to enhance security and facilitate quick recovery in case of theft.
“The e-CMR platform is a vital tool for preventing and addressing vehicle theft. I urge everyone to take advantage of this system by registering their vehicles through the website *https://cmris.npf.gov.ng
“We call on the public to report criminal activities or suspicious individuals to the nearest police station or via our hotlines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926,” the statement added.

He stated that the decision was a resolution of the State Economic Council, chaired by Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe, during its recent meeting in the state capital.
Ahemba explained that the committee’s mandate includes conducting a thorough screening to ascertain the actual workforce of the LGAs.
The exercise, he said, aims to curb financial leakages and enable the councils to implement the N70,000 minimum wage for staff.
“The screening became necessary due to complaints about an inflated workforce, especially in development areas. However, this initiative is not intended to undermine the authority of local government leaders or interfere with their autonomy,” Ahemba said.
He added that the governor has also urged LGA chairmen to align with federal and state food security initiatives by acquiring large parcels of land for agricultural purposes.
To support this drive, Vice President Kashim Shetima recently presented two tractors to each of the 13 LGA chairmen during his visit to Nasarawa State.
In another directive, Governor Sule ordered the centralization of revenue generation between the state and LGAs to ensure accountability and eliminate leakages in the collection process.
The measures, Ahemba noted, are part of the administration’s efforts to promote financial discipline, food security, and sustainable development in the state

The Ukrainian military administration says at least four people were killed early Saturday in the centre of Kyiv in a night-time Russian attack.
The head of the Ukrainian capital’s military administration, Timur Tkachenko, revealed this in a post on the Telegram messaging app, saying that the deaths had occurred in the city’s Shevchenkivskyi district.
According to him, falling debris had also hit the Holosiivskyi district on the west bank of the Dnipro River that runs through the capital and in the Desnyanskyi district on the opposite bank.
Kyiv Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said air defences were in operation around the city, adding that windows had been shattered in Shevchenkivskyi district, including at a metro station which had been closed.
Klitschko said smoke was coming out of an apartment building and repair crews had been dispatched to repair a damaged water main.
Meanwhile, authorities had warned of the danger of attack drones and missiles in the run-up to the attack.
It was gathered that the air raid alert on the capital was lifted after it had been effect for a little more than an hour.
