Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has expressed his commitment to a bottom-up approach towards addressing security challenges and strengthening the ongoing peace process in the state.

According to the governor, the present approach takes cognise of the peculiar problem of each local government, instead of a blanket approach to solving every problem.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr James Kanyip, who made this known, said he had embarked on an assessment tour of the security situation in Kaduna State to hear directly from the people affected.

Speaking to newsmen, Kanyip explained that the tour was a shift towards a more direct community engagement in addressing security challenges, adding that the engagement covers Giwa and Igabi Local Government Areas.

The Commissioner stated that he aimed to gather first-hand information from communities affected by security concerns, so as to present it to Governor Uba Sani for prompt action.

Kanyip said, “this hands-on approach will enable me to understand local security dynamics. I feel that I should not be an armchair Commissioner who just waits for reports.”

“The initiative brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including local government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and women’s organizations.”

He stressed that Kaduna State Government (KDSG) recognized the importance and role of local leaders and other stakeholders in building and sustaining peace, stressing that through the interactions, they would gather valuable information that would help them in tackling the challenges they were facing.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has clarified the misunderstanding surrounding its alleged reckless expenditure on fumigation in 2024

JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, on Tuesday, lamented the misrepresentation of figures in the 2025 budget proposal presented to the National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance on Monday.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Oloyede dismissed reports that the Board spent huge sums on fumigation, meals, among others.

He maintained that the Board’s total expenditure for fumigation across all states in 2024 was less than N1 million.

“I want to say emphatically, without any iota of doubt, that I never presented any budget performance of 2024 before the National Assembly yesterday. I think it’s a lot of misunderstanding.

” I did not talk about 2024 budget performance. And we did not spend any money, any humongous money in 2024.

“Indeed, what we spent on fumigation in the whole state of the Federation, all offices in 2024 was not up to one million naira. And what we budgeted for 2025 for fumigation is less than two million,” he said.

Oloyede explained that misunderstandings arose because the breakdown of the budget proposal was not fully reviewed during the presentation.

“On the succeeding page, we provided the breakdown with asterisks to call attention to it, but we did not go and read the other pages where we analyzed what we were doing,” he noted.

On the N6.5 billion allegedly spent on training in 2024, Oloyede said the money is just a proposal for 2025 that cut across various budget lines, including monitoring of examination, admission expenses, e-facilities payment, awards for best higher education institutions, among others.

“We have 10,500 examiners and invigilators going to conduct both the mock and the UTME.

Some of them stay for 10 days.

“I do not determine their DTA. It’s the government that determines the DTA to be paid to them.So what offence have I committed in putting their claims together?” He queried.

On the alleged huge amount spent on meal, Oloyede said : “Everybody knows that at the JAMB headquarters, we provide one lunch for those in the headquarters. And we provide this lunch for them, partly because we don’t want our system to be destroyed.

“Apart from the fact that there are security reasons for not allowing people going in and coming out, you also know that we have some ICT infrastructure that will be damaged if we allow people to be bringing food.

“So we created the canteen and we provide for them…and others have become agitated. So we are now saying for 2025, we should provide for 2,300. 2,300 times 22 days, times 12 months, what will it be if not over N1 billion?”

On the clamour for downward review of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, fee instead of the Board remitting money to federal coffers, Oloyede said : “I think for me to the best of my knowledge I have done what I’m supposed to do. We have reduced it from N5,000 to N3,500.

“This is the least paid anywhere in the world for any admission unless you want it to be given free.

“And we can assure you, if we are given a fair opportunity to explain, Nigerians will know that I, Ishaq Oloyede would not misappropriate or misuse money,” he said.

Oloyode said the figure that was also misrepresented was the amount proposed for cleaners, security, among others.

“In all the states of the federation, we have 580 security men and cleaners.

“Where would their salaries come from?,” He queried.

He added that the increase in minimum wage from N30000 to N70, 000 will also lead to an increase in their budgetary provision.

Oloyede, however, expressed hope that the National Assembly committee would allow him to provide further clarifications on the budget to resolve any lingering misunderstandings.

Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, says his country has never plotted to kill Republican U.S. President-elect, Donald Trump.

DAILY POST recalls that in November, the U.S. Justice Department charged an Iranian man in connection with an alleged plot ordered by Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps to assassinate Trump.

However, law enforcement agencies foiled the alleged plan before any attack was carried out.

Similarly, Trump said last year during the U.S. election campaign that Iran may have been behind attempts to kill him.

When asked if there was an Iranian plan to kill the incoming U.S. president, Pezeshkian said, “None whatsoever. We have never attempted this to begin with and we never will.”

DAILY POST recalls that Trump, who won last year’s U.S. election and will take office on Monday, survived two assassination attempts during the campaign – one in September while he was golfing on his course in West Palm Beach, Florida, and another during a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Investigators have, however, found no evidence of Iranian involvement in either.

Iran has also previously denied U.S. claims of interfering in American affairs, including through cyber operations.

It was gathered that a majority of ministers are expected to back the phased ceasefire deal, which details a halt to fighting and the release of hostages.

Ben-Gvir echoed remarks by Smotrich, who said on Monday that Israel should keep up its military campaign in Gaza until the complete surrender of the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, whose October 7 2023 attack caused the war.

According to Israeli tallies, no fewer than 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’ 2023 assault on Israel and more than 250 others were taken hostage.

Since then, the Palestinian health officials said at least 46,000 people have been killed in Gaza, with much of the enclave laid to waste and most its population displaced.

The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has reassured residents of the state that there is no cause for alarm over the recent confirmation of a bird flu case.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Information Officer Ministry of Health, Dr. Yusuf urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that the situation is under control.

“The case we have is isolated and not significant enough to be declared an outbreak. The ministry is on top of the issue and has taken proactive measures to contain it before it becomes a threat to public health,” he said.

The reassurance followed reports that in December 2024, a young man from Gwale Local Government Area introduced a duck purchased from Janguza Market, Tofa LGA, into his flock, which included hens, guinea fowls, and chickens.

Shortly after, respiratory distress was observed among the birds, leading to the death of 35 out of 50 birds.

Laboratory tests in January 2025 confirmed the presence of the bird flu virus in samples from the flock.

“Upon receiving the diagnosis, the Ministry of Agriculture promptly sealed the premises, culled the remaining birds, and decontaminated the compound,” the statement reads.

The ministry also decontaminated the live bird market in Janguza and sensitized sellers about the risks and prevention of bird flu.

Dr. Yusuf highlighted the government’s coordinated efforts to address the situation.

“We convened a meeting with the Emergency Preparedness Response and One Health Committees, involving the ministries of agriculture, environment, and water resources, as well as our partners, to strategize on combating this issue effectively.”

He further disclosed plans for weekly stakeholder meetings and daily surveillance reports from all local government areas to monitor the situation closely.

“We will intensify surveillance, especially among poultry and bird rearers, and provide regular updates to the public while keeping Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf informed of the situation,” he added.

The commissioner also warned about the dangers of bird flu to humans, explaining that the virus can cause symptoms such as fever, mucous, and redness of the eyes.

He urged poultry farmers to act as frontline surveillance officers by promptly reporting any unusual health conditions in their birds to the authorities.

“Protecting your flock is safeguarding your wealth and health. Early reporting allows for timely action to prevent further spread of the disease,” he said.
