Kefas dismisses allegations of funds misappropriation in Taraba
Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has refuted recent allegations of financial mismanagement and misappropriation, dismissing them as “unverifiable, misleading, and defamatory.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Usman, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, development, and accountability.
Highlighting the significant progress in security, the governor, through the commissioner, said, the state has become one of the safest in Nigeria.
Previously plagued by banditry, particularly in the state capital, Jalingo, the government, according to him, has strengthened security measures by providing patrol vehicles, logistical support, and intelligence resources to security agencies.
“These efforts have led to a drastic reduction in crime and restored confidence among residents and investors.”
Addressing claims of bankruptcy, the government cited a substantial increase in internally generated revenue, IGR, which has risen from N700 million at the start of the administration to over N2 billion by December 2024—an increase of more than 200%.
Countering claims that no projects have been executed, the government who outlined several completed and ongoing infrastructure projects, said the implementation of a new minimum wage of N70,000, effectively doubling workers’ salaries, was highlighted as evidence of the state’s financial stability.
It also dismissed allegations of misappropriating N100 billion, stating that rather than diverting funds, the administration has been servicing inherited loans while executing major infrastructural projects.
Similarly, accusations of fund diversion from local government intervention programs were denied. The government explained that the Bureau for Local Government, Traditional, and Chieftaincy Affairs had recently disbursed funds for developmental projects, with many local governments already using them to build markets and public facilities.

United States President, Donald Trump, on Tuesday instructed the country’s Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, Administrator Lee Zeldin to reinstate water standards for different home appliances that were terminated by former President Joe Biden.
Trump disclosed this in a post on his Truth Social account on Tuesday morning.
Recall that Trump’s administration had finalized rules that reversed water efficiency standards on washing machines towards the end of his first term.
“I am hereby instructing Secretary, Lee Zeldin to immediately go back to my Environmental Orders, which were terminated by Crooked Joe Biden, on Water Standards and Flow pertaining to SINKS, SHOWERS, TOILETS, WASHING MACHINES, DISHWASHERS, etc., and to likewise go back to the common sense standards on LIGHTBULBS, that were put in place by the Trump Administration, but terminated by Crooked Joe,” Trump wrote.
“I look forward to signing these Orders. THANK YOU!!!”
DAILY POST reports that this is coming after Trump signed an executive order ending a US government effort to replace plastic straws with paper.
Recall that the order reverses a measure signed by Biden, who had called plastic pollution a “crisis”.
Last year, Biden ordered a gradual end to US government buying of plastic straws, as well as plastic cutlery and packaging.
But, speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday, Trump said: “We’re going back to plastic straws.”

The Concerned Yoruba Youth of Nigeria has called on the National Assembly to immediately step down a bill by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, which seeks to amend the method of appointment of Clerk to the National Assembly, CNA.
The bill, if passed into law, will mandate only individuals who have served with the chambers to be appointed as the Clerk of the National Assembly.
Airing their voices on the development on Tuesday, at a press conference in Lagos, the National President of the group, Oluwasegun Thompson, and its National Secretary, Ayofemi Badmus, argued that the proposed law “is a discrimination to well-meaning Nigerians who qualify to serve as Clerk”.
According to the group, although the Clerk of the National Assembly plays important roles in the activities of the assembly by overseeing administrative duties, providing procedural advice, the appointment should not be restricted to only those who have served in the chambers.
The group claimed it discovered that the bill was discriminatory and violated the terms of service under which many National Assembly Service Commission, NASC staff were employed.
It reminded the lawmakers that “hundreds of committed employees of the NASC have tirelessly devoted their lives to ensuring the legislature runs smoothly”, insisting that by restricting the appointment of the CNA to only individuals who have served within the chambers, the “bill undermines the NASC’s role.
“We further call on all well-meaning lawmakers to resist every evil attempt to manipulate the career structure of the National Assembly Service Commission for sectional or personal gains”, the group said.
