Katsina State Government has slammed the bandits who attacked and killed worshippers in a Mosque in Malumfashi Local Government of the state, describing then as cowards.

The Acting Governor of the state, Alhaji Faruq Lawal-Jobe, said this in Katsina on Saturday while inaugurating eight new Armoured Personnel Carriers, APC, procured by the state government to strengthen the fight against banditary, stating that the incident was “sad and most unfortunate”.

DAILY POST recalls that in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, suspected bandits attacked the worshippers during prayer at Unguwan Mantau.

“We have invested so much in terms of security assets. We have also succeeded at least in securing four of the eight frontline local governments, including Jibia, Batsari, Kankara and Danmusa.

“So, the battle is not over until it is won. And, therefore, we will not relent, we will not be distracted by the cowardly attitude of the bandits, because they are cowards.

“Instead of confronting the people, they decided to attack them very early in the morning when they were performing their obligatory duties,” Lawal-Jobe said.

According to him, the government had saluted the courage of the community, “because the bandits made several attempts to enter the village, and they made resistance, that is why the bandits resolved to do what they did.

The acting governor disclosed further that the State Government had also sought the intervention of the Federal Government.

Women now pillars of stability in Nigerian communities — Ex-Rep Onuigbo

The member representing the South East on the Board of North East Development Commission, Sam Onuigbo has urged the government to invest more in women, saying that they are now the pillars of stability in homes and communities.

He said that women are now the custodians of peace and harmony in communities through the strategic coalition they formed to support the men.

Onuigbo, who was represented by Abraham Osondu, stated this on Saturday at Obuohia Obi-Ibere, Ikwuano LGA of Abia State during the 31st women’s Annual August meeting organized by Obuohia Obi-Ibere development union, ODU women’s wing.

He observed that there would have been a lot of crises in Nigerian homes and communities if not for the peaceful and intervening roles of the women, noting that many abandoned community projects were reactivated through the united efforts of the women.

Onuigbo said that President Bola Tinubu was interested in peace and security of every part of Abia and Nigeria at large and commended the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti for mobilising Abia women for development.

He remarked that the women of Obuohia Obi-Ibere despite being predominant farmers, have been empowering the local economy.

In his address, the National President of ODU men wing, Chiedozie Atuma urged the women to ensure that their children don’t get involved in criminal activities.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator of ODU women’s wing, Mrs Gloria Nwabuike said that school drop-out syndrome, maternal problems, drug abuse among youths have been tackled in the community by women, through seminars by personnel from NDLEA and ministry of health and other government agencies.

A crackdown on cattle rustling in Adamawa State has unearthed a secret slaughterhouse.in the capital, Yola

The feat was achieved by a special security outfit, Operation Farauta, an Adamawa government-backed outfit tasked with tackling crime in the state and which uncovered the hidden slaughterhouse

The outfit uncovered the slaughterhouse where stolen cattle were being killed and sold to the public.

Operation Farauta made the finding upon raiding the premises after a report from a herder whose cow was stolen and who traced the cow right up to the slaughterhouse.

At the house located in the Bachure area of Yola North Local Government Area, the slaughtered cow and a toilet converted for dumping animal waste were observed during a visit on Saturday.

The cow owner, who identified himself simply as Mallam Gagare, explained to newsmen that after he followed the footsteps of his cow to the slaughterhouse, he alerted security agents to help him fight for his right.

‘Fulani suffer more from bandits’ attacks’ – Miyetti Allah replies Plateau cleric, El-Buba

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has responded to allegations by Plateau State-based cleric, Prophet Isa El-Buba, who accused Fulani herders of being behind the incessant attacks and insecurity in the state.

El-Buba, who is the founder and
President of EL-Buba Outreach Ministries International, in a recent sermon, opined the more than 80 percent of genocidal attacks carried out in the state were being perpetrated by Fulani militias who are members of the Miyetti Allah Association.

The cleric further stated that the long-held notion that the attacks are often farmer-herder clashes should be discarded as they are pure genocide, terrorism, and attempts at land-grabbing.

He added that if the Miyetti Allah association should call the herders to order, the attacks will stop.

But while responding to the accusations in a statement on Saturday, National President of MACBAN, Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, countered the cleric by saying that Fulani pastoralists are not criminals but victims of banditry and insecurity in the state and the country in general.

Othman-Ngelzarma noted that contrary to what many Nigerians are made to believe, the Fulani herders are made to bear the brunt of such attacks as they are profiled by both natives and security operatives and suffer from attacks unleashed on them.

The MACBAN President further stated that the situation is so bad that every bandit attack in the state is attributed to the Fulani herders, who are being overrepresented in violent conflicts, which makes them easy targets and are killed daily. At the same time, their cattle are rustled by their attackers.

He advised El-Buba and the Plateau people against seeing all Fulani pastoralists as criminals, as they remain the most vulnerable group because they live in forests with their families and depend solely on cattle for survival, making them easy targets for bandits, rustlers, and kidnappers.

He concluded by saying that until justice is done to the affected herders, there will never be a solution for peace in the state.
