A political pressure group under the aegis of the North-Central Renaissance Movement, NCRM, has called for the zoning of the 2027 presidency to the North-Central region of the country.
Chairman of the group, Prof. K’tso Nghargbu, who made the appeal on Saturday in Abuja, urged Nigerians to avoid the habit of low expectations from the country’s leaders.
Nghargbu said the appeal was directed particularly at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Action Democratic Congress, ADC, and the Social Democratic Party, SDP, among others.
According to him, this was because President Bola Tinubu has the right to seek a second term.
“No amount of party chairmanship positions or other secondary roles will deter us from our demand for the presidency.
“We will no longer accompany other zones as escorts, back benchers, spectators, or political underdogs to the glorious location called Nigeria.
“Being the only geopolitical zone that has never produced a civilian President or Vice-President since independence, the time for North-Central to lead the country is now,” he said.

Christian leaders from different denominations have called for a collective stand against corruption, injustice, and spiritual complacency in the country.
The Christian leaders, who made the call during the Christian Citizenship Summit 2025 in Aba, Abia State, on August 21 through a communiqué, demanded moral responsibility in the Church and the nation.
The summit declared that the Church must rise above neutrality and re-engage with society with courage and unity, emphasising that silence in the face of moral and political decay amounts to complicity.
They resolved to establish Christian Citizenship coalitions nationwide, promote civic discipleship in schools and congregations, and train believers for leadership roles across politics, media, education, health, and the economy.
The Christian leaders, who appealed for collaboration with Nigeria’s diaspora to strengthen nation-building efforts, urged citizens to embrace civic responsibility, even as they urged the government to demonstrate transparency and uphold justice.
The convener of the summit, Pastor Emmanuel Ihim, challenged Christians to courageously confront corruption, injustice, and moral decline.
Earlier in his speech, Governor Alex Otti, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Religious Matters, K.C. Wiper, urged Christians to rise as agents of positive change in society.

Muslim council bans wedding parties in Taraba
The Muslim Council of Taraba State has announced a ban on all forms of wedding parties in Jalingo town.
The decision, reached by all Imams in Jalingo in collaboration with traditional rulers and with the backing of authorities, specifically prohibits events such as Kauyawa (villagers’ day) and Ajo parties, where youths usually dress in torn clothes and dance late into the night in the name of wedding celebrations.
The Chief Imam of Mayo Gwoi Jummat Mosque, Jalingo, Imam Tajudeen Nuhu, conveyed the ruling on behalf of the council.
He said: “From now on, it is forbidden for any household to hold ‘Kauyawa’ parties, ‘Ajo,’ or any form of celebration during weddings here in Jalingo.”
The council further warned that any Muslim who disobeys the ban will not have an imam conduct their marriage contract (Nikah).
In addition, funeral prayers (Salat al-Janazah), Islamic wedding lectures, or naming ceremonies will not be performed in the homes of violators.
Clerics were also cautioned that if they defy the order by attending such functions, they risk disciplinary action, including removal from their positions.
The ruling, which was the main theme of last Friday’s sermons in all Jummat mosques in Jalingo, is aimed at promoting discipline, God-consciousness, and order within the Muslim community.
The council then urged all Muslims in Jalingo to strictly abide by the new directive.
