APC members decry hunger, decamp to PDP in Ondo

• Declare support for PDP’s candidate, Ajayi, ahead of guber poll
• PDP to inaugurate Edo, Ondo campaign councils today

Hundreds of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure, Ondo State capital, yesterday, defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

According to the decampees, lack of internal democracy within the APC, as well as hunger and hardship in the state, were the reasons they moved to the PDP.

The defectors, including the APC Ward 8 Leader, Deborah Owosusi; Ademola Ayonijebu, Mayowa Boboye, Oloro Alejo, and Azeez Ibrahim, who led the Ebira community, drummed support for the governorship candidate of the PDP, Agboola Ajayi.

The APC Organising Secretary in Akure South, Akinwande Fayinminu, who spoke on behalf of the decampees, said the unending deceit and deception within the APC had not only continued to cause more harm to their personal development as politicians but is also dangerous for the entrenchment of internal democracy within a political party.

Meanwhile, the PDP’s governorship candidate, Ajayi, has said noted that there is a lot of suffering, hunger, and anger in the land over the maladministration of the APC-led government in the state.

He, however, said his administration, if voted into power, would provide the people of the state with a better alternative, saying that the PDP is ready to reposition the state.

On his part, Chairman of the PDP in the state, Tola Alabere, who said that the umbrella of the PDP is wide enough to accommodate more new members, assured the defectors that they would be treated equally with other members of the PDP.

IN another development, the National Working Committee of the PDP has approved the inauguration of new Governorship Election National Campaign Councils ahead of the Edo and Ondo states’ elections.

According to a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, the inauguration is set to take place today, July 27, 2024, at NEC Hall, PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, at 2:00 p.m. with plans to ensure victory in the upcoming elections.

It enjoined all leaders, critical stakeholders, and members of the Edo and Ondo State Governorship Election National Campaign Councils to take note and be guided accordingly.
