Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Tinubu, has accused US President Donald Trump of having ulterior motives for declaring Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern.”

Baba-Ahmed made this allegation in a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, accusing the United States of being uncomfortable with the rise of strong, populous, and resource-rich African nations such as Nigeria, Sudan, Libya, and South Africa.

He called on Nigerians to be wary of internal division following Trump’s declaration of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

The former presidential aide maintained that the move would mark a troubling step by the American leader, who appears to have been misled by distorted narratives about religious killings in Nigeria.

He further explained that the declaration, allegedly tied to claims of genocide against Christians in Nigeria, ignores the complex reality of insecurity in the country, which affects both Muslims and Christians alike.

“The truth is that those killing Nigerians do not distinguish between Muslims and Christians. Ethnic and communal conflicts in Nigeria have claimed the lives of both.

“America and its partners have never felt at ease with African countries that have large populations and resources. They see nations like Nigeria as potential threats because we refuse to submit to foreign control,” he said.
