Self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has taken on a new identity while serving her 15-year prison sentence — and this time she is calling herself Evangelist Josephine Asiamah.
The announcement was made by her husband, Angel Asiamah, during a Heaven’s Way Church service on 22 November. He told congregants that Agradaa chose the new name as a symbol of “spiritual transformation,” claiming she is ministering to inmates and “interpreting dreams” at Nsawam Female Prison.
According to him, the name draws inspiration from the biblical Joseph, who also spent time in prison. The comparison has, however, stirred public debate, with many questioning whether Agradaa — who has been embroiled in multiple criminal and controversy-laden cases — can draw such parallels.
Angel Asiamah also read a letter purportedly written by his wife from prison, in which she urged church members to “remember her in prayers,” insisting that every challenge she faces will eventually be defeated.
He further dismissed rumours suggesting that Agradaa’s skin tone has changed drastically while in custody. He attributed any perceived changes to the prison environment rather than any medical or cosmetic condition.
The name change comes as Agradaa continues to fight her legal battles. She is currently appealing her conviction and reportedly seeking a plea deal in a separate case involving leaked intimate videos.
With her latest rebranding, critics say Agradaa is continuing a familiar pattern of shifting identities whenever under pressure, while supporters claim she is undergoing “divine renewal.”
Whether this new name marks a genuine transformation or yet another reinvention remains to be seen — but for now, “Josephine Asiamah” has officially become her chosen identity behind bars.
