Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed New York, United States, after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th week-long session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Shettima was seen off at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, by cabinet ministers who were part of the UNGA 80 delegation and Nigerian Mission officials.
The vice-president, according to a statement issued by his Media Assistant, Stanley Nkwocha, is now headed to Germany where he is scheduled to hold strategic meetings with officials of Deutsche Bank to explore areas of intervention and partnership in Nigeria’s developmental initiatives.
During his participation at UNGA 80, Shettima secured UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ commendation for Nigeria’s bid for a permanent UN Security Council seat.
He also showcased Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity to global investors and strengthened strategic partnerships with the UK on trade, defence, and migration issues.
The vice-president delivered President Tinubu’s national statement, calling for UN reforms and a permanent seat for Nigeria at the UN Security Council, even as he demanded Africa’s control over its $700 billion mineral wealth and digital inclusion initiatives.
He also engaged with the Gates Foundation on healthcare and education expansion, positioning Nigeria as the natural hub for the African Continental Free Trade Area’s $3.4 trillion market.
The vice-president will return to Nigeria immediately after his engagements in Germany.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo State, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, has expressed deep appreciation to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for what he described as an unprecedented recognition of the Idogun community in his administration.
Ajanaku spoke during a grand reception organized in his honour by the Idogun Progressive Union (IPU). The event brought together community leaders, family, friends, and well-wishers to celebrate his appointment as commissioner.
The occasion, which began with an opening prayer by Pastor Gabriel Oyebola, was chaired by the former Chief of Staff to the governor (Late Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu) Chief Olugbenga Ale, who lauded Ajanaku’s elevation as both an honour to Idogun and a pride to Ondo State. Ale described the commissioner as a man of character and professionalism, urging him to remain fully loyal to Governor Aiyedatiwa and to serve without fear or favour.
The Chairman of IPU, Mr. Sunday Agbotoba, recalled that the last time an indigene of Idogun held a commissioner portfolio was in 1976 with Dr. L. Olasehinde, noting that Ajanaku’s appointment after 49 years was a milestone. He appealed to the commissioner to remember the community in the area of development.
Other speakers, including Baba Anthony Omolorun Modupe, Elder S.A. Oniyere, Dr. Bayoshule, and Mr. Lanre Akarakiri, described the appointment as the dawn of a new era for Idogun. They praised Ajanaku’s humility, professional pedigree, and selfless leadership, while offering prayers for his success in office.
Family members and associates also spoke glowingly about the commissioner. His former teacher, T.O. Ajimuda, expressed delight at seeing one of his former students attain such heights, while his brother, Gbenga Ajanaku, described him as a disciplined, contented, and trustworthy leader who had brought Idogun into a jubilee season with his appointment.
In his response, Hon. Ajanaku thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for giving Idogun what he termed its “best representation in decades,” citing his own appointment alongside other indigenes of the community serving as Civil Service Commissioner, LCDA Chairmen, and Secretaries.
“Idogun has never had it so good in the past. For this, I pledge robust grassroots support for the governor as a mark of appreciation for his goodwill towards our people and the entire state,” Ajanaku said.
He further appreciated the Idogun Progressive Union for the honour, assuring the people of unity, peace, and collective progress. He urged both elders and youths to shun rancour and embrace cooperation for the even development of Idogun and Ondo State.
The event was attended by dignitaries including Chief Olugbenga Ale, Baba Omolorun Modupe, Mr. Sunday Agbotoba, Elder S.A. Oniyere, Dr. Bayoshule, Mr. Lanre Akarakiri, Mr. Akerekan, Gbenga Ajanaku, and management staff of the Ondo State Ministry of Information and Orientation, among others.

Nigerian brothers,Damilola and Jomiloju Ajanaku, have officially joined NK Jedinstvo Bihać, a club competing in the First League of FBiH—the second tier of professional football in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At a brief and vibrant signing ceremony held on Friday, the club’s president, Saša Smiljanić, explained that the decision to sign the siblings was based on their individual qualities and the rich footballing pedigree of Nigerian players. “We decided to sign the two brothers because we recognize the immense talent Nigeria continues to produce—legends like Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, and more recently, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, who have both won African Footballer of the Year. We hope Damilola and Jomiloju can replicate that level of excellence, not only for our club but also for their national team,” Smiljanić said. He also urged the players to give their best in helping the club return to the Premier League, following its relegation in the 2007/2008 season. The Ajanaku brothers expressed their gratitude to the club’s management for the opportunity and pledged to repay the trust placed in them. “We’re excited to join this historic club, the first football club in Bihać, founded around 1920. We’re confident we can contribute to the team’s journey back to the Premier League,” said Damilola.
