Anambra 2025: Paul Chukwuma expresses happiness over influx of governorship aspirants into APC

Former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and governorship aspirant of the party in Anambra State, Mr Paul Chukwuma has expressed happiness over the entrance of more aspirants into the party.

Chukwuma who was reacting to questions by journalists, on Thursday, over the recent declaration of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu for the governorship contest on the platform of his party said he is happy that people are now finding APC a good platform for political contests.

Besides Ukachukwu, Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof Obiora Okonkwo had recently joined the party too, and is working to contest the governorship position.

Chukwuma in a press conference in his house in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state said: “You know political party is like a church, you enter at will and exit at will. But, I’m happy that a good number of people are beginning to join our party. It shows that APC is the party to beat, contrary to what was obtainable, where we were seen as a pariah party.

“I took it upon myself to clean up the party, fund it to what it has become today and now everyone is coming into the party. Within 18 to 24 months that I have tried to rejig the party and reposition it, people have started coming and we are happy that of all the parties, they think the best to join is APC.

“The good thing is that my party is going to win the governorship election in Anambra this year, and I’m appealing to my party people to help me win the ticket of the party because our focus is to win Anambra and reposition the state from what it is today.”

Reacting to pledges by new aspirants that they will support whoever wins the primary in the spirit of oneness, Chukwuma said he is happy that new entrants are abiding by the rules already set in the house. He excused confidence that he will win the ticket of the party in April, and will also win the governorship election in November.

He said: “As a party man, I have been loyal and I have handled some very key assignments for the party, so I have seen it through and I’m dedicated and devoted to the party, and I know my party people will give me the ticket.

“I have shown the party what it means to lead and now we have a new APC and our party people can attest to this fact, to the point that people are now running into the party.

“The issue of supporting whoever emerges is very important. I know I will emerge and I know they will support me to win the election when I get the ticket, but if this does not work and God chooses someone else, I will be very happy to support whoever emerges.

“We are happy that they are joining our party, and we are going to have a college of aspirants that are qualified, and the number may still increase.”
