Naija News understands that the unfortunate event took place at the Okela Police Station on Thursday.

The police officer involved, whose identity has not yet been made public, reportedly fired the weapon in a moment of celebration upon hearing about a colleague’s promotion, which inadvertently resulted in the woman being shot.

There remains some uncertainty regarding the precise circumstances surrounding the victim, who was a mother of one at the time of the incident.

Leadership quoted sources to have disclosed that the accidental discharge occurred as she was passing by a salon across from the police station after paying her rent.

In response to the incident, the State Police Commissioner, AIG Adewale Adeniran, confirmed the details and stated that the officer involved has been disarmed and is currently in detention.
