Banditry in North-West: Shinkafi backs move by DHQ to probe sponsors
Sani Shinkafi, a former governorship candidate and ex-aide to the immediate past governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has backed the Defence Headquarters’ move to probe of sponsorship of banditry in the North West geopolitical zone.
In a statement he signed on behalf of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, Shinkafi described the move as a welcome development and long overdue in the quest for sustainable peace, security, and development in the region.
He noted that the spite of killings, kidnapping for ransom, destruction of property, imposition of levies and taxes, displacement of people from their communities by these criminal elements is alarming and calls for concerted military onslaught to crush them and restore national security.
“We align our position with the Defence Headquarters, the highest military command in Nigeria. Any person or group of persons found wanting in the course of the probe should face the full weight of the law no matter his status or position in the country,” a statement signed by Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, the
Executive Director of the group, said.
“Some unscrupulous politicians have been using banditry as a campaign tool against their opponents for selfish political motives.
“The Defence Headquarters should also probe those playing politics with the lives and property of innocent people. Other public office holders equally use the security challenges as conduit pipes to divert and siphon public funds for personal enrichment.
“It is on record that the military has performed excellently since President Bola Tinubu while in China directed the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa to relocate to Sokoto 8 Division of Nigerian Army command and flush out banditry in the North West.
“That order has yielded positive results with the elimination of several notorious bandits leaders, including Kachalla Halilu Sububu, Jamilu Nazakiru, who terrorised Bungudu and Maru rural communities.
“Another military success was recorded in the Dansadua axis, where notorious bandit leaders Sani Black and Danbaleri Mashekari and groups were neutralised.
“In Katsina State, a bandit kingpin, Wala Baburki, who terrorised Batseri, Kankara, and Kankia rural communities, was neutralised along with his gang.
“In view of the highlighted, it is evident that the directive of Mr President that the Minister of State for Defence, Matawalle and Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa should move to Sokoto to coordinate the fight against banditry has been fruitful, an eloquent testimony of synergy between the Ministry of Defence and security agencies in the quest for national security, peace, stability and prosperity.”

Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Wing debunks alleged separate burial committee for late Iwuanyanwu
The youth wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo has distanced itself from the burial planning committee for the late Ohaneze Ndigbo President General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu,
allegedly put together by one Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu and his colleagues on behalf of the youth wing.
Ohaneze youths warned that it does not have a separate committee for the burial of the late Ohaneze Ndigbo President General.
A press release from the desk of the youth leader of the group, Damian Okafor stated that the youth wing before now had aligned itself with the national burial committee under the leadership of Senator Ben Obi, who carries the youth wing along as regards the burial process, insisting it does not have any other separate committee.
“Our rapt attention has been drawn to the illegal moves of Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, Arthur Chinedu Ugwa, Ogbonna Wenesluss and others at large who ganged up to claim that they have formed a committee for Late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s burial under the auspices of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing.
”Ordinarily, we would have ignored them as usual but for the sake of public interest and the matters afoot, we would like to put the records straight,” he stated.
Okafor informed that the Youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is not divided as he enjoined members of the public to disregard any information that is not coming from the recognized body under his leadership.
He further informed that the said Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu and his team are no longer members of the group claiming that they have been suspended due to what he described as their inglorious act of allegedly invading the National Secretariat of the youth wing destroying the symbol of Igbo unity and inflicting injuries on national executive council members.
The Youth leader noted that the burial of the late PG is beyond the dictate of the youth wing maintaining that the late PG is an international figure as such all the programmes of the youth Wing are now fused into the National Burial Program so that there will not be a clash of event at the end of the process.
“The security committee and family of the late PG should be vigilant as the ousted members have concluded plans to unsettle everyone at the Enugu office and Owerri respectively” he further stated.
Okafor used the opportunity to enjoin members of the public not to have anything to do with the group alleging that they may use the claim to extort money from people in the name of the organization.
