Former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Solomon Okoduwa, has described the state’s Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo as God-sent.

Okoduwa said Okpebholo’s emergence as governor was a victory for all Edo people.

In a statement he issued, Okoduwa said Okpebholo’s victory was God’s punishment to the outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Okoduwa said God wanted to punish Obaseki for his wickedness, vendetta, and high-handedness.

He said: “Okpebholo from his background is God-sent. The way he addressed issues and relates to people you will never see arrogance in him.

“That is why the entire returnees protested against him and voted Okpebholo.

“Almighty God deliberately wanted to punish Obaseki by giving him defeat because of his wickedness to returnees and other indigenes of Edo State.

“The factors that led to his defeat were his wickedness and high-handedness, unforgiving spirit and vendetta.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Okpebholo winner of Saturday’s governorship election.

Okpebholo was the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election.

Declaring the results, the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta said Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo polled 247,274 votes, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party got 22,763 votes to come third.
