Lagos: Two injured as speeding commercial bus crashes along Oshodi-Oke road

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has reported a serious road accident that occurred in the early hours along the Heritage Garden stretch of the Oshodi–Oke route, leaving two passengers badly injured.

According to preliminary investigations, the crash involved a red commercial ‘Tata’ long bus with registration number MUS 507 XX.

The incident was allegedly caused by excessive speeding, which led the bus to collide with another truck that was in motion at the time.

The truck reportedly drove off after the impact without visible damage, complicating immediate identification and follow-up.

LASTMA officials stationed in the area were swiftly alerted and promptly moved to the scene.

On arrival, they rescued two passengers who sustained critical injuries after being trapped in the wrecked vehicle.

Emergency procedures were immediately activated, and the Lagos State Ambulance Services, LASAMBUS, was contacted.

The medical team provided first aid at the scene before transporting the victims to a hospital for further treatment.

To prevent additional accidents and ease traffic congestion, LASTMA officers took the bus driver into custody for questioning while ensuring the damaged vehicle was quickly removed from the road to restore free flow of traffic along the corridor.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy to the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.

He described the crash as unfortunate but preventable, warning motorists against reckless driving and emphasizing the severe consequences of speeding on public roads.
