Kennedy Agyapong accuses Dominic Nitiwul of inciting Konkomba Community against him

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, has levelled serious allegations against Dominic Nitiwul, the Member of Parliament for Bimbilla and former Minister of Defence, accusing him of inciting members of the Konkomba community against him.

Speaking in an interview on SKY FM in Takoradi, Western Region, Mr Agyapong alleged that Mr Nitiwul has been spreading falsehoods aimed at turning his tribal kinsmen against him.

“Even Members of Parliament have resorted to dirty politics,” he said.

“On Monday, December 1, 2025, I will release a video showing a sitting MP inciting his tribe, the Konkomba, against me.”

It is not clear when he granted the interview, but it appears to be recent, as he also addressed the recent warning by Lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, former Minister of Housing under President Nana Akufo-Addo, to NPP delegates who will be voting in January next year, not to elect an ‘insult machine’ referencing Agyapong.

Atta Akyea supports ex-Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia.

Agyapong said he would not respond to the ex-Abuakwa South, whom he revealed had insulted Akufo-Addo at Heathrow Airport, including describing the then NPP flagbearer as unfit to be President of Ghana.

According to Mr Agyapong, the Bimbilla MP has allegedly claimed that the two served together on a Parliamentary Committee and that Agyapong harbours dislike for the Konkomba people, allegations he strongly denies.

“This is completely false and a serious allegation. I can confirm that I have video evidence of him inciting Konkombas against me. I didn’t even know he was a Konkomba, and that makes it even more troubling. I have remained calm for a long time, but now I will respond,” he stated.

Mr Agyapong noted that this is the first time he has publicly mentioned Mr Nitiwul’s name in relation to such claims.

He also raised serious concerns about what he describes as dirty politics within the party, alleging both death threats against a member of his campaign team and tribal incitement by a sitting Member of Parliament (MP).

Mr Agyapong said his team member, Naa Toshie, has been subjected to repeated death threats from unknown individuals.

According to him, the callers appear to have mistaken another campaign member, Gifty, for Naa Toshie while issuing the threats.

“The threats are still ongoing. Unknown people will call and threaten you on the phone,” he said.

“A lady from my campaign team, Gifty, called to tell me that people had been threatening her with death, thinking she was Naa Toshie. They told her, ‘Naa Toshie will see what we will do to you,’ before she informed them they had dialed a wrong number.”

Mr. Agyapong described the situation as worrying, stating that the intimidation appears linked to internal political tensions.

“Because Naa Toshie is standing up to them, they are now threatening her life. Gifty said all those who called her were bearing Muslim names and were threatening to kill Naa Toshie,” he added.

“The kind of dirty politics we are doing in the NPP is very bad. This will not help the party.”

The allegations come at a time of heightened tension within the NPP as the party heads into its Presidential primaries.

Mr Agyapong has maintained that he will release the purported video evidence to the public to substantiate his claims.

Atta Akyea, a senior lawyer and former Adisadel College schoolmate of Ken Agyapong, urged NPP delegates to exercise sound judgment as they prepare to select the next flagbearer.

He warned against electing anyone who may embarrass Ghana on the international stage.

Speaking at a gathering of party faithful at Mpraeso in the Eastern region, Mr Atta Akyea cautioned delegates not to “make a mistake and elect someone who will insult world leaders when he travels to the United Nations”.

Mr Atta Akyea stressed that Ghana’s global reputation must remain intact, particularly at high-level platforms such as the UN General Assembly, where decorum and diplomacy are crucial.

According to the former minister, the next leader must possess the temperament, maturity and statesmanship required to engage constructively with the international community.

“Let’s not make a mistake and elect someone who will insult world leaders when he travels to the United Nations,” he said.

The NPP goes to the polls on January 31 to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 election. Among the five candidates, the two frontrunners are former Vice President Dr Mahamamudu Bawumia and former MP Kennedy Agyapong.

While Mr Akyea did not name the target of his comment, observers believe he was referring to Mr Agyapong.

But Mr Agyapong said he would not respond to Atta Akyea, but he stated that had he revealed his Heathrow Airport conversation to Akufo-Addo and the damning things he said about his ex-President, Atta Akyea would not have been made a Minister in Akufo-Addo government.
