The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced a temporary waiver of the mandatory one-month waiting period for new enrollees and those renewing their membership after more than three months of expiry.
The waiver, which took effect from 1 November, will run until 14 December 2025 as part of the NHIS Active Month campaign.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the authority said the initiative is aimed at improving access to healthcare and expanding active membership on the scheme.
“All eligible members who renew or enrol during the NHIS Active Month will enjoy immediate access to NHIS services, without the usual waiting period,” the NHIA said.
The authority is encouraging the public to take advantage of the window by visiting any NHIS district office, using the MyNHIS App or dialling the NHIS mobile renewal short code *929#.
“We urge everyone, especially those whose membership has expired for more than three months, to renew promptly and continue enjoying the benefits of quality, affordable healthcare,” the notice said.
The NHIA also encouraged subscribers to opt for the auto-renewal option for added convenience.
For further information, the public can contact the NHIS call centre on 6447 (MTN/Vodafone) or 054-444-6447.
